Best Cleanser I’ve Ever Used for My Extremely Oily Skin — Over a Year of Use
I’ve been using CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser for over a year, usually twice a day, so I’ve had plenty of time to see how it performs on my skin. After trying different face washes over the years, this is honestly one of the best cleansers I have ever used, especially for controlling oil. My skin is very oily. With many cleansers, my face feels clean immediately after washing, but within a couple of hours the oil starts coming back. This cleanser has been completely different for me. After washing my face with it, I can usually go around 6–7 hours before I start noticing significant oil returning. That is probably the biggest reason I have continued buying and using it for more than a year. It leaves my face feeling very clean and much less greasy, but what impresses me most is that the oil control actually lasts for hours rather than just 20 or 30 minutes after washing. The texture is also nice and it spreads easily across wet skin. You don’t need a huge amount for each wash, so one bottle can last a reasonable amount of time. I also personally like the smell. It isn’t something I find unpleasant or overpowering. That being said, it hasn’t solved every skin concern I have. I still have blackheads, even after using this consistently for such a long time. I was hoping regular use would completely clear them, but that hasn’t happened for me. I still sometimes have to deal with the visible blackheads separately. So if you’re buying this specifically expecting all of your blackheads to disappear, I wouldn’t automatically expect that based on my experience. I’ve also noticed that sometimes my skin can feel or look a little bumpy/textured. I can’t say for certain that the cleanser itself is causing that because there are many things that can affect skin texture, but it’s something I’ve noticed while using it. Despite those negatives, the oil control is outstanding for my skin. That’s what keeps me coming back to this product. Finding something that can keep my naturally oily face from becoming shiny again for approximately 6–7 hours is difficult, and this has consistently worked better for me than the other cleansers I’ve tried. What I love: * Excellent oil control for my very oily skin * Keeps my face feeling less oily for around 6–7 hours * I’ve successfully used it twice daily for over a year * Leaves my skin feeling thoroughly clean * Doesn’t immediately leave me looking shiny again * A little product goes a long way * I personally like the smell * Consistent results over long-term use * Best overall cleanser I’ve personally tried for controlling my oil What could be better: * My blackheads have not completely disappeared, even with long-term use * I still have to address some blackheads separately * I’ve noticed some bumpiness/texture in my skin at times * People with less oily or more sensitive skin may have a different experience Overall, this is still an easy 5 stars for me because I’m judging it based on what it has consistently done for my skin over more than a year. It hasn’t magically fixed every blackhead or every skin-texture issue, but nothing else I’ve personally used has controlled my oil this well for this long. After more than a year of using it morning and night, I think that’s a much better test than judging a skincare product after only a few uses. For someone with very oily skin like mine, this is absolutely a product I would recommend trying. For oil control specifically, this is the best face cleanser I’ve used in my life so far.

Good price, effective, refreshing.
Gentle on my skin with mild rosacea, no lingering irritation, but clears up oil and small blemishes quickly. I go back and forth with this and non-medicated. Lathers well and is light and fluffy. No reside feeling afterwards. I would recommend if you have mildly oily/blemished skin or deal with breakouts occasionally. It’s also good to use after cleansing oil.

Clearer skin with fewer products - it's a win!
This effectively controls my adult acne alone and I was able to drop the Tretinoin I had been using. My sensitive skin is happier with fewer products and I love that it is fragrance free. I don't find it too drying, even though my skin is not oily. I started out using CeraVe's Renewing SA Cleanser and had a feeling the salicylic acid was helping and then switched to CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser for the 2% salicylic acid. I have rosacea and it means a lot to break the cycle of lingering red blemishes. To get the most out of the salicylic acid, I later and let it sit on the skin for a minute or so.

Cleared my adult acne!!
I know CeraVe doesn’t need my help selling its products, but I am genuinely so happy with the results about a month after using this product. Admittedly, I’ve combined it with a couple of other CeraVe acne products in my desperation to fight a particularly bad outbreak, but they’ve worked super well! I had beautiful skin in high school, ironically, and now struggle with adult acne. I was previously using the CeraVe hydrating facewash, concerned that this acne wash would dry out my skin. However, since switching to the acne wash, my skin hasn’t dried out, and it’s smooth and clear! It’s nice to find something that works after stressing over everything else (diet, caffeine, pillowcases, etc.) to no avail.

The one cleanser she didn’t stop using
I bought this for my girlfriend because she’s been dealing with occasional breakouts, and honestly I wasn’t expecting much — she’s tried a lot of products and usually stops using them after a week or two. This one was different. She started using it once a day at night, and after a couple of weeks I could already notice her skin looking calmer and a bit clearer. What she likes most is that it actually helps with acne without drying her skin out too much, which was her main issue with other cleansers. The texture is simple, no strong smell, and it rinses off clean without leaving that tight feeling. It’s one of the few products she kept using consistently, and now it’s basically part of her daily routine. If I had to mention something, at the beginning she felt a slight dryness (probably from the salicylic acid), but once she adjusted how often she used it, it wasn’t a problem. Overall, this turned out to be one of those products that actually gets used instead of sitting in the bathroom. Final rating: 5/5 — simple, effective, and something she genuinely stuck with.

Mostly positive experience
I have struggled with hormonal breakouts and sensitive skin for years, and finding a cleanser that actually clears acne without completely stripping my moisture barrier has been a challenge. After using the CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser for a month, I am genuinely impressed with the results. The formula contains 2 percent salicylic acid to tackle active blemishes, combined with niacinamide, ceramides, and oil-absorbing clay. It has a clear gel-like consistency that transforms into a light, non-foaming lather. Unlike other harsh acne washes I have tried, this does not leave my face feeling tight, dry, or irritated after rinsing. **Pros:** - Effectively clears minor breakouts and prevents new ones from forming without causing irritation. - Contains ceramides and niacinamide to soothe skin and maintain the moisture barrier. - Fragrance-free, making it safe for sensitive skin types. - The 16-ounce pump bottle is affordable, lasts a long time, and is easy to use in the shower. **Cons:** - The pump dispenser can occasionally squirt product too forcefully if you are not careful. - It requires consistent daily use (about two weeks) before you start seeing noticeable improvements. Overall, this is a fantastic, dermatologist-developed cleanser that delivers on its promises without the high price tag. If you are dealing with mild to moderate acne and need something effective yet gentle on the skin, I would definitely recommend giving this a try.

Def recommend for teen acne
This was on the list my dermatologist gave me to fight teenage breakouts. I have sensitive skin so it’s great! You’ll be glad to know my many breakouts have gone to almost none. This definitely was not the only product, I was also on subscriptions, but considering a doctor told me to use it I would recommend it for anyone trying to deal with acne! Remember it takes three months to actually decide if a product worked on your skin😭. Don’t throw it away if it doesn’t magically cure you. This is a product I’d say works very well, foamy when you mix it in so it’s gentle and non irritating. No fragrance, and good for my oily and dry skin. I use it at night and use the cera ve acne foaming cream cleanser in the mornings. The picture is how clear my skin is after using it for two years (my subscriptions might’ve changed but the cleansers didn’t so they must really work since my dermatologist was so confident!)

It's gentle, try it for a month or two to understand how it works for you
Great cleanser, gentle foam, good price, never had a leak during shipping. I previously used the CeraVe Hydrating Cream To Foam Cleanser, Face Wash for Dry Skin but I found it actually too drying. For context I'm a 42yo male who rarely has a blemish (humble brag) - but I wanted something that was a little more gentle up front so I didn't need to slather on moisturizer. For moisturizer I use La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+MAX Triple Repair Moisturizing Body Cream. Sometimes I'll put some spf30 face moisturizer on my face but otherwise that's pretty much the whole regiment. On the random occassion I get a blemish, I spot treat with Differin Acne treatment. skincare doesn't have to involve 22 products. --- A year or two ago I tried a korean skincare routine with snail mucus and all these things. My skin didn't change, it didn't look any brighter or anything. Tried it for months. If anything it gave me more blemishes. --- Keep it simple. Your diet has more to do with your skin than anything. Your skin is actually the end of the road when it comes to the processing of organics through your epidermis.

Non drying
I can't say if it was this that has stopped my severe cystic acne or not. I have been using it two weeks and have had a recent flare of my acne for the last 6 months and it was only getting worse. My skin is clear and is now healing. It doesn't dry my skin out and is very likely doing something as i had previously bought a similar product with the same active ingredient and it helpt. I don't agree with over loading your skin with different products during these episodes so i use it with a good moisturising cream and treclin for the scarring. If you have oily type skin and have acne give this a go.
