Dragon Ball Z - Seasons 1 - 9 - Amazon Exclusive (CR Rebrand) - BD [Blu-ray]

At first I was hesitant to purchase this item due to the negative reviews about not receiving all of the discs and general wear of the box. But, I decided to buy it as I couldn't pass it up! So I gave it a chance, as I am a hesitant online shopper. The package also arrived on time, technically earlier than I expected! After opening the package, the DBZ blu-ray box set was in perfect condition inside. I followed the advice of people in the reviews and checked the boxes and each individual disc for repeats or mistakes. ALL CORRECT DISCS ARE IN THE BOX SET!!! If you're hesitant to purchase due to the reviews, I want to let you know that it came perfect for me and I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase. Those reviews about the wrong discs were in 2018. As of 2021, I have experienced zero issues. As for the Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray Box Set itself, it also exceeded my expectations. I was also hesitant after reading about quality issues with the remaster and lost details. While I can see what they are talking about, it does not look bad to me at all. The show is from 1996 and was originally in 4:3 ratio, there is only so much remastering that can be done besides remaking the whole show. For a show that old, I am very impressed with the quality and how well it translated over to 16:9. Mainly I have noticed softening of the painted backgrounds, but you can't avoid this when getting rid of the "noise" or "grain" in the picture. Some early episodes also have a slight "shake" in certain scenes, but once again that is due to how the show was made in the 1990s. None of these "quality" details affected my viewing experience. I also wanted to note how cool I think the menu screen is. It's a series of landscape shots from the show that translate between the old look of the show in 4:3, and the remastered look in 16:9 set to a cool beat. I wasn't expecting the menu screen to be anything more than a picture with the usual "Play," "Menu," and "Set-up" buttons, so I was very impressed. If you love DBZ, don't have enough money for a Dragon Box, and prefer HD 16:9 vs the old school look, definitely get this set!!

Just. Received mine Dragon ball Z blue ray set no problems with the desk so far I went through every single one there is no cracked desks no cracked covers I am very happy with my purchase all the desks are in the proper order and this is a very amazing dragon ball Z box set. Which that they made the option to let people pick if they wanted to. See it in a 4 x 3 or have it by 16 x 9 I must say the picture quality on the blue rays are amazing Shipping was fast the customer service was wonderful would buy from again thank you Amazon for a wonderful box at dragon ball Z I know a lot of people will love it to be it’s original 4 3 just as we got. back in the day but as a diehard dragon ball Z fan I could not resist to buy this. Blue ray box set I’m a Diehard fan of this wonderful tv series willing to watch it whatever way I can as much as I wish that it it was in its original broadcast 4 x 3 I wish they just gave an option I would’ve been a lot more happier but a long as I’m able to watch it it doesn’t matter I’m still happy either way and hopefully the people may also be happy when they buy this at two and realize that it’s not as bad as people make it to be hopefully you are able to do the right decision and if this is not a box. For. U out there all I can tell They get the steel cover Blu-rays which are very nice and they’re in 4 x 3. Just like the original broadcast which I plan to buy but the only reason why I didn’t buy it is because they are very expensive and that’s the only reason why I got this Blu-ray box set so I’m willing to give it a try and see what happens it’s so far I’m satisfied this box that is only temporary until the steel box sets go on sale because I love to watch everything the original way that it Broadcast back in the day hopefully you all have a wonderful blessed day please stay safe for u and your family and god bless

This review is for the Blu-ray version of the complete series box set. I'm going to assume you've seen the series, so I'll focus on the quality of this exact product. Overall, I'm very happy with this set. I'm convinced that this was the best choice of the options available. Now for details: It started when one of my old VHS tapes that I recorded off Toonami glitched and broke my VCR (Agh, I can't replace that!). I went on here to get a DVD copy but couldn't find much comparative information on the different sets. Did I want Blu-ray, DVD, Kai? I checked out Kai on Internet Archive and decided I didn't like the new voices or that awful circus parade music and I did like the funny episodes that Kai left out, so that was out as an option. From the pictures posted the Blu-ray copy took up less shelf space than the DVD version, so I went with that. My copy arrived in perfect condition, but I checked it over thoroughly. No disks were broken, scratched, or missing, so I embarked on a ten-day binge to check every episode for glitching. While I was at it, I streamed the other series options alongside to compare them. The first episodes I compared to the 1996 US TV version, the Cell saga I compared to the DVD edition and then the Kai edition. Here's my take: the video on the Blu-ray is better than all the other versions, although Kai came close. The picture I posted is a side-by-side comparison of the picture from the DVD (on the laptop) and Blu-ray (on the TV) editions. My computer screen is far better than my TV, but the picture on the TV is better because of the superb quality of the Blu-ray. The clarity is amazing. I can see all the individual character in the hand-drawn lines. The DVD version I used for comparison was letterbox ratio, so maybe that's an option with that set. I can confirm that the Blu-ray is widescreen only. If Amazon didn't cut off my picture, you can see that the widescreen edition is not just zoomed and cut. They actually drew in more picture on the sides. In some cases, the letterbox version seemed more cut down than the widescreen version. Other scenes didn't transition to widescreen as nicely, so some are better and some are worse. No lines or details were missing in my version, like some reviewers had. For audio, I liked the '96 TV version best. It was much funnier, had snappier pacing, better voices, and way better music. If there ever is a complete series version of a 90's style TV edit with Ocean Group voices I'd pay twice this much for it, but that won't happen. I already mentioned my opinion of Kai's English audio, but if you want Japanese voices, that would be a better bet. The Japanese audio track on this set is tinny and thin, probably because it's a very old recording made using old technology. Kai is re-recorded and is sure to sound better than this. The English dub is perfect quality. I like the fact that the Toonami music track is available on here, but it's too bad it is the second track. I have to remember to change it with each disc. For people concerned about bad language, it's rarely in the English dub. I think just in the Freiza arc. It's all over the subtitles though. The menu system is intuitive, and this series works perfectly with my remote. The audio and subtitle buttons work as they should for when I forget to run the setup first. Each disk has annoying ads that Autoplay on loading, but they can be easily skipped with the menu button on my remote, so I don't care. Each episode is divided into intro, segment 1, segment 2, and ending, so it's easy to skip intros and endings if you want to go through the trouble. Better yet, use the marathon mode (genius!) and have the system skip them for you. The cases are not great. There's no episode guide, they don't always close securely, and they have those nasty plastic disc holders that tear discs up. At least the plastic is fairly soft, and the disc holders don't have sharp points, so they won't scratch the discs. The discs will snap onto the holder securely, but it takes some careful persuasion. Getting them off without risking breaking the discs can be tricky. I tried replacing the plastic holders with poly sleeves, but the cases fit too snugly for that. The outer box is not well glued and wants to fall apart, but some packing tape will fix that. There's a lot of excess packaging that isn't environmentally friendly. It does take very little room on my shelf; the box is 5.75" wide.

I was really leery about buying the box set, as I was replacing the Orange Bricks and read a lot online about how terrible this rendition is, and read reviews about missing or damaged parts on delivery. That couldn't be further from the truth for me! The main box and each of the cases came in pristene condition, and the discs were perfec(after reading reviews, I decided to check everything first). The difference in quality in this vs the orange bricks is staggering. Colors are richer, everything is so much cleaner looking, popup menus are so much easier, and the sound is much better, even on the TrueHD Stereo Broadcast audio. The biggest point of excitement for my wife is the original Faulconer score option. You can choose 5.1 English Dub with Japanese music, the original US Broadcast version in Stereo (with the FUNimation score), or original Japanese Mono. The Faulconer score doesn't start until episode 61, but it's a nice throwback to the old Toonami days. I don't notice the cropping that everyone goes on and on about, and would prefer to watch in widescreen instead of the original 4.3, but that's a preference thing. I haven't seen DBZ in 4.3 since the late 90s, so it's not an issue for me. All in all, a great purchase that we're enjoying thoroughly.

Exactly what I've been looking for. I am a huge fan of DBZ, one of my most favorite animes to watch. These discs do contain Bruce's music. I am extremely happy with my purchase. The box was delivered a week earlier than expected, which is awesome. I ordered the "used like new" and all the discs look brand new, except for a couple that have a lil scratch but pales in comparison to damaged discs ive seen from buying dvds at the store. Def worth the money as trying to find this anime with the best soundtrack is starting to feel like the Holy Grail.

I bought this a while back when it was on sale for a pretty great price. I like owning this and if you like the show I see no reason not to get it if for no reason than to add to a collection. That being said dbz isn’t for everyone and it’s not the smoothest show(dialogue is corny, dialogue is awkward, scenarios are ridiculous, and becomes very repetitive). If you aren’t familiar with dbz be prepared for every fight to cycle between guy #1 beating down guy #2 then guy #2 says “I guess I need to try” and he starts beating guy #1. Guy #1 says something like “how dare you hit me”(as if he is the only one to actually make physical contact with anyone during a fight) and he starts beating guy #2 again and they continue “trying harder” in that cycle until one finally gives 100% and defeats the other. It gets very repetitive and you get to the point where you just want someone to start off at 100% and skip the 5 episodes in between where they take turns beating each other up. I personally don’t know whether I prefer db or dbz both have reasons I like and dislike them but my all time favorite character is kid Goku from db, but db gets slow and boring at times. I enjoyed watching dbz through in blu ray but I honestly think this show is better suited watching one episode at a time cause if you binge it like I did you start getting bogged down when they have those fights that last many episodes, but I needed to make sure all the discs worked so I wanted to watch it through as fast as possible.

Be sure to physically inspect each disc and caseings. The manufacturing quality of this set is hit and miss. Things i noticed with my set: Many discs had smears on them. (easily wiped off with a soft microfiber cloth) One disc has a small scratch on it. Some discs were loose in the case/not snapped into its holder. Every jewel case has a light greasy substance on the plastic under where the disc sits. There are 2 design types of jewel cases being used with multi disc inserts. One style, is very poor with very weak to useless center tab design that does not hold the disc at all. Additionally, one of this type of case, the point at witch the multi disc insert attaches to the case it self, was broken, so the insert just falls out. There was also several small pieces of plastic loose in that case. Thankfully, no disc appear damaged. it appears to be random what internal design jewel case they use. About the content of the set: I have only looked at a few episode in the later seasons, but this is what i notice so far. It does look pretty good, though, do not think they used the best up-scaling software to make this. I have seen far far better up-scales done to similar 2D flat animation style series using AI based up-scaling. The picture gets soft and loss of details is noticeable at times. Colors seem a bit inconsistent, dull at times, then saturated other times. (Could just be how it was originally made back then?) It IS cropped to 16:9, but i do not really care about that. Audio....this is where things get weird. MakeMKV sees 6 audio tracks. There are 3 Main audio tracks: Dolby TRUE HD 5.1 English dialogue with Jap music Dolby TRUE HD 2.0 Stereo US English Broadcast version Original Jap Mono There also seems to be detected a AC-3 version of each track. The TrueHD tracks have a bit rate of ~1,000kbps. The AC-3 tracks have a bit rate of 192kbps. I guess this is for compatibility? in case the playback device does not support TrueHD (like Plex playback on AppleTV, it will end up in transcode mode). They are separate distinct tracks, as different bitrates, and file sizes when extracted. However, the Ac-3 do NOT show up in the actual bluray menu when playing, or in VLC when u play the bluray normaly. Only the TreHD track show in that usage. Overall, appears to be a great set. I have not had any other sets, so can not comment on how this compares to past ones. I was told by a friend that they changed the music at some point and to find the "true" version, called Bruce Faulconer score. I had no idea and have not even watched this series anywhere since i was a kid and watched it as it aired new on Cartoon Network on cable tv. I read in the comments about this set has that score, so that is why i bought it. Comparing the Jap "music" to the English "Funimation" / "English Broadcast" version, there is no contest, the Jap version is just terrible lame, lacks music at all in many places...the English Broadcast track is the music and effects I recall hearing when i watched the show live all those years ago. Just again, take the time to inspect each disc and case. Not just if they are clean and scratch free, but are in fact, the right discs and that you are not missing any or are mixed up. (as other reviewers have had happen) Edit: Discovered during my ripping process, that one disc is bad. (Season 3 Disc 3.) # of the episodes will not read on the disc. the .m2ts is corrupt or invalid. When played in VLC or a bluray player, it just is garbled picture and the machine freezes and says disc error. The disc is physically clean with no scratches, so it is a bad burn or mastering. All other discs are fine. Looking into just buying S3 of this set elsewhere, as i do not want to return the whole set, or get another one as replacement and have to verify every disc again.

Found this boxset randomly on amazon, always been a fan of DBZ. Could see it was a US import but some of the reviews said it worked on UK region B bluray players so took the chance. Presentation is good but delivery packaging was not the best as others have pointed out corner of box takes tiny bit of damage but no enough to warrenty a return. So far watched season 1 & 2 with no issues, excellent feature called marathon play so you get the intro on first episode on the disc then it just plays the episodes back to back. Picture Qaulity is great, I have been watching on a 65 inch oled and the sound is true HD which is fantastic. Was so impressed with this boxset I turned to Ebay and picked up DBSuper bluray which is also awesome. Can't recommend this enough if you are a fan

Awesome value for the amount of content you’re getting here! The blu ray cases are actually good not one disc was lose or damaged! The transfer is good especially if you have a tv with AI upscaling and colour correction, nearly looks like a modern anime. Not as good as the Gundam blurays but still good. The 16:9 crop was done well and doesnt just come off like forced zoom. Not to mention the surround sound english dub wt the Japanese music combo is the peak experience for a dub fan, the Japanese score is just unbelievably better and knows when to be quiet.
