Beautiful setting, characters and lessons.
Simply beautiful setting, characters and lesson for any young reader. Read through this with my little one far quicker than anticipated because they were so enthralled. Looking forward to reading the remaining books.

Wonderful!
One of the nicest stories I've read in a while. My class of year 3 children chose this from a list of 100 rec'd books for Year 3 and we're using it as a guided reading book. It's lovely. In terms of teacher stuff: โข The language is rich and interesting but easy to read and decipher. โข The chapters are short but full of information. There isn't a single chapter that has been anything close to filler. One of my TAs said the book would have been perfect for her son because he couldn't handle reading long books, but with the short chapters - some of less than a full page - he would have been able to handle this. โข The way the author uses subtle hints to create a picture is so creative and lends itself really well to high level inference and figuring out context from words used. Most importantly though, as someone who has read the book to see if they'd enjoy it as a story -- it's such a gorgeous tale of belonging and fitting in that I couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing in about 2 hours and couldn't stop. Even the slow build start is interesting enough for my kiddos to want to devour it just like I did. A wonderful story and I'm so glad our random number generator picked this from our 100 list and then that my kids voted for it.

Nice little book with themes of love and change. Itโs an easy read and nothing too awful happens to distress young children.

A lovely story
My 6 year old grandson read me the chapter with the fox and I decided to get the book as well so I could read it. It is a really lovely story and I now want to read the two follow up books, to find out what happens next to Roz. My 11 year old grandchild is also reading and enjoying this book. I just hope the film is as good as the book.

Great for film lovers
Got this as my little one liked the film. The book gives lots of extra nice details that the film doesnt have. We are enjoying it. (6 year old)

A great story to get younger children to start reading chapter books
Started reading this as it was something my 7 year old had read in school as a class. Itโs a really lovely story thatโs been adapted into a film. The wording is easy enough that younger readers can have a go, with chapters often being only a couple of pages long making it a great bedtime story.

Amazing book
My 6 year old started reading at school, and we finished it together at home. Itโs really kept him engaged and the nice short chapters keep the story progressing and give lots of chances for bedtime reading. Canโt wait to read the next book!!

Incredible Book
Gentle and brutal, beautiful and smart this is a modern day classic - the animal kingdom in all itโs tooth and claw seen through the eyes of a gentle robot who accidentally kills (almost) a whole family of geese a few pages in - cute things get eaten, animals perish in the harsh winter but all the time the meaning of family, nature, ecology, motherhood, tragedy, fear and love are explored in such a beautiful way. The first time you encounter death it is a bit jarring in a childrenโs book but the subjects are safely wrapped up in a sci-if / pagan -wilderness cross over which is both harshly practical and yet wonderfully fantastical - youโll be rooting for Roz and the animals she comes to understand right to the end - we have read this as a bedtime chapter book (nice short chapters are great for bedtime) a dozen or more times a real favourite for children and mum and dad.

My kid loved the book (story, characters, illustrations)
This is a great read for younger kids as introduction to long-form/novel book. My 7-year-old son enjoyed the story of a robot thrived and survived in a remote island. The use of animals as characters and illustrations added his engagement into the story. Although the book is lengthy - 80 short chapters - it is highly recommended for exploring.

Good story for mothers/guardians too
My son and I are reading it together. It sometimes makes me cry when I read it loud for him. You'd feel so attached to this robot if you're a guardian. Kids would love it feeling the connections between them.
