Makita DUC302Z Cordless Li-Ion Chainsaw, 36 V (Body only)

A Nice little work related saw for me,to go with my trio of stihl petrol saws.As a general landscape gardener rather than a qualified arborist,this will be helpful for me topping out large conifer hedges+dealing with 18 foot+Bramley apple trees.However,if you are an occasional chainsaw user and are attracted to saws such as this,I would urge you to look at the conventional shaped saw,(also 36v) offered by makita.They are much safer and easier to control for occasional users-purely because your left arm is straight and so offers much more strength in a kick-back situation.The accident stats for top handled saws are pretty horrific-indeed,in some European Countries they are illegal.Like so much of makitas output this is well made,with a quality bar/an oregon chain with a clean,narrow kerf or cut,also a proper metal bumper spike to aid cutting.If,as I have,you own the makita chargers+several 4/5 ah batteries these bare tools are great additions to your tool collection.Just purely focusing on gardening items-are battery tools as good as smaller petrol strimmers/blowers/chainsaws etc?Not quite,but they are getting there.As to comparing tools like this with electric ones-go battery.As someone who earns a living gardening,I wouldnt even countenance the use of electric tools outside-dragging+snagging leads and worrying more about cutting the lead rather than the hedge you are trying to cut-silly stuff.To recap,this is a fine little saw for competent users,but not for weekend users-you're looking at the wrong handle configuration with this saw.Hope this review helps potential buyers.

This works neatly, producing a slim clean cut; the kit in the box includes a spike (essential for safety but listed in the manual as an optional extra - perhaps it is not optional in the EU?). My Makita chainsaw is new but has already used 12 full battery charges of my 5AHr battery pair due to a lot of use over 5 days. Its Oregon branded chain has remained reasonably sharp over that usage cutting a lot of growing Oak, Birch, Chestnut and Maple tree branches off my trees. The saw comes bare and without a chain sharpener, or even a file. This is an essential purchase if you plan to use the saw for long. (An 11/64th (4.5mm) chainsaw round file is required. Oregon recommend their 558549 kit but the guide in that kit does not work with the 90PX chain supplied with the saw. Of course, using a guide would be best to maintain the chain's sharpness because maintaining the correct angle is difficult. However, as Oregon's own guide doesn't work, just purchasing a file and file handle is probably sufficient; you'll have to be very careful and hope to maintain the correct filing angle.) The disappointment is that, despite this being a premium product from Makita, it does not use a brushless motor so I am concerned that it may not be as maintenance free as I would normally expect from a Makita; only time will tell.

A lot quieter than a petrol saw. A lot lighter than a petrol saw. A lot less vibrations than a petrol saw. It has a proper chain and works just as well as the petrol version but since it is lighter, it is easier to use. The batteries last quite a while and the battery strength metre is a useful addition. Despite its small size, it will cut down surprisingly large trees. Just make sure the oil tank is kept topped up and the chain is at the right tension which is easy as no tools are needed to tension it. A highly recommended saw.

Vorweg muss ich sagen das ich mir das Gerät gekauft habe, da ich ein absoluter Makita Fan bin und mir fürs Paletten sägen oder abasten eine Kleine Säge kaufen wollte. Die Alternative war die Stihl Ms170, da wir aber in einer Wohnsiedlung wohnen kam eben die Akku Version von Makita.Die Problematiken vorweg: Das Gerät welches hier verkauft wird, wird offiziell von Makita in der Version nicht in Deutschland vertrieben. Somit kann man das Gerät auch nicht bei Makita registrieren. Die Deutsche Version ist die DUC252. Der einzige unterschied der beiden Geräte ist tatsächlich die Schwertlänge, ansonsten ist alles gleich.Viele schreiben das das Öl ausläuft. Das Probleme habe/hatte ich tatsächlich auch und habe mich diesbezüglich mit Makita in Verbindung gesetzt. Der Tankdeckel dient gleichzeitig als Belüftung, welches ein Vakuum verhindern soll. Ein Vakuum wiederum würde die Kettenschmierung verhindern was auch eher doof wäre. Die von Makita angedachte Lagerposition ist tatsächlich auch so das der Öldeckel nach oben zeigt. Meiner Meinung nach ist das ehr untypisch und auch nicht 100% durchdacht, aber eigentlich kann man damit auch leben. Man kann natürlich auch zum lagern einen anderen Deckel besorgen oder Klarsichfolie dazwischen spannen. Dann müsste es auch dicht sein.Das Dritte thema ist die Säge selber. Die Säge ist eigentlich NICHT für den Privat Haushalt gedacht. Aufgrund des Gewichts und der Bauform kann man die Säge als Einhandsäge nutzen, was wirklich MEGA gefährlich ist. Jeder muss sich im Klaren sein, das man zur Nutzung dieser Säge eine Spezialausbildung benötigt. Sie ist halt für Baumkletterer oder Ähnliche gedacht. Im falle eines Unfalls kann es zu Versicherungs Problemen kommen... Muss nicht kann aber!!!Nun zur Säge selber:Die Säge selber macht einen vernünftigen Eindruck und ist eigentlich auch selbst erklärend im Zusammenbau und Nutzung. Man Kann die Kettenspannung ohne Werkzeug einstellen und auch die Ketten Schmierung ist einstellbar. Dazu muss man Sagen das Makita hier nicht groß in die Forschung und Entwicklung gegangen ist. Makita Hat Dolmar aufgekauft und sich deren Know How gesichert. Positives daran ist das man sich viele Kinder krankheiten durch Erfahrung spart.Das Arbeiten selber mit der Säge geht leicht von der Hand (hoffentlich Hände) und ist auch über einen längeren Zeitraum machbar. Die Akkus halten eigentlich auch wirklich gut durch und man muss nicht alle 3 Minuten zum Ladegerät rennen. Dennoch muss man sagen es ist und bleibt eine AKKU Säge. Wer damit Bäume fällen will braucht wirklich geduld und Zeit. Sie ist halt deutlich langsamer und auch bei weitem nicht so Stark wie eine Stihl Benzin Säge.Wir Nutzen die Säge wie schon gesagt zum Paletten klein machen, Abasten, im Garten für kleines und auch längen Markierungen sind damit super zu machen.Man Muss sich bewusst sein was man hier Kauft und auch wenn es alles so schnell geht, sollte man nicht auf seine PSA verzichten.3 Sterne gebe weil es an sich ein vernünftiges Produkt ist und man damit gut Arbeiten kann. Die zwei Sterne Abzug sind aufgrund der vielen kleinen Themen.Eine Kaufempfehlung/Nicht Kaufempfehlung gebe ich bei dem Produkt nicht. Hier muss wirklich jeder für sich abwägen ob es das richtige ist!

This is a cracking little surprise!I already have the Makita double battery charger and spare batteries for my other cordless tools so I took a chance on this.Happily working for 20-30 mins or so chopping logs 4-6 inches thick. It will likely do thicker but I haven't tried it yet.Quiet, Light and easy to use.Whilst not for hardcore users or professional tree surgeons, any home DIY'er or handy man/woman would do well to have this tool available in their van for all kinds of jobs.Bonus... crack on with jobs early and no waking people up at 7 AM with a noisy chainsaw!
