Can i plug in two cables (one in each output port) into the masthead outputs and one cable each into a distribution amp with separate uhf and vhf?

The masthead unit has an input for both uhf and vhf which will send both signals to all outputs the amp unit must be connected to the first output to power the masthead unit the other output on the amp will then serve as the first output

Does it need a power plug?

Yes it does, although the power supply can be inserted into the aerial lead at any point, so does not need to be in close proximity to the amplifier. I have the amp in the loft, close to the aerial, and the psu close to the TV, where there is a spare power point nearby. Using the coax to supply power makes for a neat, unobtrusive solution. It's worth noting that this new design of psu is physically much smaller than the old design, which is still widely available.
