Schaum's Outline of College Physics, Twelfth Edition

Helps me study concepts that we don't get enough practice with in class and homework.

As is usual for all the Schaum's Outlines there is a good breadth of problems covered and solutions are step-by-step easy to follow.

This book is a really great study aid. I appreciate the quality of paper, soft-binding, and print/illustrations. It's well-laid-out and the problems are realistic and some are challenging. I'm self-studying college physics and use this book as a check after each chapter of the text. The book aligns well with the college text and provides a great review and supplement. It also has technical explanations at the beginning of each section which I believe supplements very well the college text. Well worth investment in time and money. Just an added observation. Some of the problems seem to have incorrect answers; in some cases, I've worked the problems in different ways and always get a consistent answer, different from the one in the book. It would help if ALL of the problems were worked because with just an answer, I'm never sure of my correctness.

I taught physics at a small liberal arts college for thirty-seven years. During that period I taught our non-calculus introductory course at least fifteen times. I sort of recommended earlier editions of this book, with caveats about notation and units. English units showed up in the earliest editions, for example. I'm happy to say that were I teaching that course today, I would add this volume to the required texts. It uniformly uses, carefully, common notation and sticks to SI units. I have not gone through this book in detail (that would be pretty boring), but I looked at a representative sample of chapters and of problems. Professor Hecht has done a fine job of consistently aligning his text with current usage and conventions. The worked problems I examined have solutions that are reasonably detailed and quite clear. In addition, the flex cover and binding represent useful improvements over earlier editions. I think that both students and instructors of non-calculus introductory college physics, as well as high-school physics, will find this volume worth having at hand.

Great Buy!

This is a solid study guide but beware that it requires some knowledge of trigonometry to solve many of the problems. Simple stuff like Sin and Cosine but it is there and not simple for someone with no trig background. Very helpful otherwise.

Good book for highschool students learning physics

All topics are covered. Concepts have been quickly explained. It is a refresher which has a lot of practice numerical questions.

Really good book! Clear, concise, well-organised and has lots of worked examples and supplemental problems to do. Might be useful to include a summary table in the appendix of the formulae in the book in the next edition. Highly recommended!

Como la gran mayoria de las guias de Schaum's Outline, esta no es diferente. Muy buena calidad en todas sus formas: Presentacion, explicacion, ejemplos, ejercicios y coordinacion de los temas presentados. Si tengo alguna queja es que quisiera que Schaum's presentara (al final del libro) las respuestas a todos los ejercicios. Adicionalmente, me parecio raro que el libro no cubriese electromagnetismo y las Ecuaciones de Maxwell (Maxwell's Equations). Sugiero que se le agreguen estos temas en la proxima edicion (es decir la THIRTEENTH EDITION). Si fuese asi les hubiese dado 5 estrellas!

A differenza di tutti gli altri libri della collana non c'è una parte teorica introduttiva per ogni argomento. Peccato.
