Q: Is this cord ideal to make a Rope Basket?

My wife said it's OK unless you want too add beads as she couldn't find beads with large enough holes.

Q: Is this definitely 6mm width? From some of the pictures in the reviews here, it looks thinner than that.

I have used 6 & 4 mm “tenn well “ rope which is a lovely soft rope to work with. I haven’t actually measured them but there is a noticeable difference in thickness with the 6mm being much heavier. It all depends on what you are creating- both are great.
