Mostly only worth it for the Loeb/Sale miniseries
There's a lot of rehashing and remixing that happens in this era of Wolverine. Cyber, Elsie Dee, Lady Deathstrike, The Hunter in Darkness. They all return in stories that feel too similar to what came before. Larry Hama just doesn't have the creativity here that he had earlier in his Wolverine run. And when you're reading through these Wolverine omnibuses, they almost feel additionally repetitive in format as well as content. Every one has a few Wolverine issues, then a Nick Fury miniseries, a few more Wolverine issues, then a Ghost Rider miniseries. etc etc. Which makes the Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale Wolverine/Gambit miniseries stick out all the more. We haven’t really seen much of Gambit in these collections. He and Wolverine contrast nicely. And of course, Sale’s art is exceptional as always. And perhaps also of course, Loeb’s story has its moments but falls flat at the end.I did like that the Wolverine main series starts to reach a climax by the end of this volume. There are some major developments, but then there is also a lot that is left unresolved for down the road - or never. The whole Landau, Luckman, and Lake plotline just feels too sci-fi for a solo Wolverine comic, and as far as I know never really had much of an impact on the Marvel universe. This is also the era where Wolverine has lost his adamantium and is going feral. I hate it when writers and editors give a superhero some new wound like that to make them more interesting, instead of just making them more interesting. You’d probably be better off getting the Wolverine/Gambit collection on its own - it is very out of print but it seems like copies are actually affordable here on Amazon. There are also some Phalanx Covenant issues in here - just read that in its entirety in the Milestones paperback (which unfortunately currently looks less affordable but might be worth it if you’re a big enough fan and want everything in print).

Fantastic Book but Poor Shipping as Always!
Wolverine Omnibus #5, Great Story and Art! = 5 Stars!However...Rare "Collectible Book" arrived in damaged condition, bent/broken corners, crushed spine and torn dust jacket. All due to negligent, careless Amazon Shipping! The too big, oversized box, had NO SECURE bubble wrap, packing peanuts or air pillows inside. Book rattled & crashed around for days before arriving at my place. I had to claim a refund of $120 from Amazon. Huge loss for them, all for the lack of 10 cents of packing a few air pillows!Shipping = 0 Stars!
