Good so far!
Bought the Dock to replace a Synology NAS unit that died & as part of changing my backup hardware strategy. I mostly use it for a photography workflow.I have a late 2015 MBP that is TB2, so need to use the Dock with an Apple TB2 to 3 Adapter. I had seen somewhere that you need to use the Apple adapter for the Dock to work properly. So far, this arrangement is working fine.I run it as a RAID 1 10Tb unit. The rear DisplayPort socket is handy for legacy external monitor, although you need to get your own DP to DP cable, as one is not supplied. Also, the supplied TB3 cable is short (0.5m), so the Dock needs to be fairly close to your computer & to any other daisy-chained TB devices. I bought 2m long OWC 40GB/s TB3 cables to give more flexibility on arranging the Dock around other desktop items & to allow for future MBP upgrade to a native TB3 computer. The power supply cable from the brick to the unit is also relatively short, so the Dock needs to be positioned close to your power supply & close to the edge of your desk.In use, the Dock is fast, & quiet. As my MBP is natively 20GB/s TB2, I do not see the full TB3 40GB/s capacity but I bought knowing I will upgrade to a TB3 MBP next year. There is a significant time lag when accessing the Dock files on start-up & after sleep, but once accessed initially, then everything is very quick after that.It is working out to be a very good, albeit fairly expensive, drive. I am hoping on good reliability for the box & disks, but have regular backup just in case.

Set up tricky and needs high quality cables to work
Love this drive - works well and is fast enough for video editing using a Mac Pro. Set-up was a little tricky and the instuctions are not the best. Strongly recommend reading the full manual online. Used a lightning cable to USB C adapter. Initially attempted to use a dedicated USB C to lighning cable (from Apple) but it would not work and drive remained dead. Almost sent it back - thinking power adapter was bad (it has no light) then tried dedicated lightning to lightning cable and lightning to USB C adapter and it started up immediately. No problems after that but RAID 1 formatting needs a Lacie app download. Again a little tricky but worth the bother

Tech support, supporting material, website all terrible
Purchased this hard drive based on Amazon and online reviews. The impression some reviews create is that this hard drive is ready to plug and play with Macs..... that is unfortunately not the case. Worse yet the tech support is very bad:1. Every call to tech support results in at least a 30-45 minute wait.2. When I finally did get someone he recommended I backup Apple Time Machine first. The backup took 20 hours for 1 Terabyte of data. Per LaCie tech support the backup should have taken 1-2 hours.3. A repeat call to tech support with an additional 45 minute wait resulted on me being on hold for a long time while the technician researched the Apple website (because LaCie's website is useless). After she figured out how to resolve a rights issue, I asked for help installing the RAID manager which repeatedly failed to run. The technician explained she didn't know how to help with RAID because she was a "Level 1" tech and she had to put me on hold again to get a Level 2 technician. To her credit, when she couldn't reach one (because there aren't enough), she did arrange for one to call me back. The Level 2 tech did call, but only several hours later when I was at work (more on this below). The Level 2 tech asked me called back once I was in front of my iMac and told me what options to choose in the phone menu tree to get directly to Level 2 techs.4. After leaving work early to finally sort all of this out I called back armed with the correct phone tree options and ..was on hold again for another 45 minutes. The person who answered was - you guessed it - another Level 1 tech. He said he would have to refer me to a Level 2 tech but...as might be expected...they were all gone. Now I'm waiting until tomorrow for a call back, and I'll have to stay home from work.5. The customer support hours are 8-6 PM CST. The hours need to be extended so customers who work don't have to take time off to get tech support.6. All of the techs said their phones ring all day long. LaCie obviously needs to triple their tech workforce and train them all to a Level 2 to alleviate the very poor customer service (when a tech has to refer the problem because they don't know how to help with RAID, your tech support has big problems!!).7. If the Quick install guide was detailed and contained correct info, customers wouldn't have to call. The LaCie website is unfortunately just as bad and next to useless - if both were like most user guides and websites, perhaps the tech support wouldn't be inundated with calls? The bottom line is I bought this unit for over $600, received it next day with Prime but still don't have it working after 3 days. It took more than 20 hours to perform a single back up (which was presumably with RAID 0 as I haven't been able to set up RAID 1?). Tech support hours are limited, and when you do call you are guaranteed a 30-45 minute wait (and I mean guarantee because it's been the case every time - add waiting for LaCie tech support to taxes and death). The tech support staff are nice people but most haven't been trained and have to refer you to someone who is a Level 2 (resulting in another hold - this time overnight). If you do buy this expensive drive be prepared to spend a lot of time setting it up and be prepared to have to take time off work. I tempted to return it and cut my losses but I've already spent so much time on it I'll prob see it through and update this review to include performance later.

Quality TB3 HDD AND Dock Combined... Well Worth The Price!
I usually wait a year or so before writing a review, but this has been excellent with my 2017 MBP. The speeds with TB3 are excellent, and I don't need to buy an expensive docking station, as it has BOTH DisplayPort and USB C ports to support external displays (as well as 2x TB3 ports for Daisy-Chaining).I actually did buy a $300 dock (which I have this daisy chained to), and never use the dock as this has everything I need.... and if I used a lot of USB 3.0 devices, I'd just get a much cheaper USB 3.0 hub to plug into this.In terms of the storage, this is my 3rd LaCie external drive. It has professional grade, fast, Seagate Barracuda drives in it, and my two others have been trucking' for years. There's nothing worse than losing your data, and I've found LaCie to be top quality and use top quality drives/components to last for years to come. There were issues with previous models (TB2) that would disconnect if the machine went to sleep. This has been rectified with this TB3 dock/external enclosure... computer goes to sleep and so does the drive, and wakes like a charm. And, can definitely notice the speed difference between TB2 and TB3.

Profesional

Don’t buy
Horrible experience. I received the drive and it worked for two weeks before I noticed the blue light go out. The drive started disconnecting itself from my iMac and the LaCie Manager could no longer detect the device. I worked with the manufacturer to replace under warranty. The new drive has been in place three weeks and guess what - exact same result. No blue light. LaCie manager unable to recognize the drive. I want to return but with all of the time for warranty replacement I’ve now exceeded the vendors return window. Very very expensive mistake unless this supplier waived the deadline. 😭

Great package. 20Tb plus a dock for USB 2 and SD cards. Good price
I have been looking for just this sort of RAID for a while; small enough for a suitcase; large enough to be able to take all my video projects in my suitcase. The one downside is that because there are only 2 drives there is no redundancy, but not an issue since everything is backed up to larger RAID's at home. Worked perfectly right out of the box; no issues.

Peccato.
