What kind of cutting is this? 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?  What is better to give a rabbit?

I've been buying timothy hay from Small Pet Select for about a year now.  The cut depends on the time of year.  They sell 1st cut and 2nd cut. This box was 2nd cut. It is still a much better quality then the local chain stores.  And I love that it is delivered right to my house in a great storage box. Question 2

I've noticed lots of brown parts in this hay. Is that normal? It seems to get brown very quickly.

Hay will have some brown in it which is normal, although the second cutting has been very consistent in containing very little brown. If you feel that the hay has an unusual amount of brown please contact us and we make sure to resolve right away, thanks.

Question 3

Usually my guinea pigs love this.  This box is much coarser and they are hardly eating it.  It is more like bedding than food for them.  Why?

This is the first time I bought this product for my pigs and I have the same problem! I wrote my review accordingly. I’m pretty sure it’s meant as food, not bedding. But since my piggies won’t eat long, hard sticks or all that brown grass, I won’t be ordering this product again.

We preserve freshness and nutrients by packing our hay into a breathable box that prevents exposure to sunlight and allows more air to filter through. Competitors sacrifice quality during mass production resulting in stale, less nutritious feed for your animals.

The worst enemies of hay are exposure to moisture, exposure to sunlight, and excessive handling. You've probably noticed that hay in big-box retailers is packed in plastic bags, which allow sunlight to get through and bleach the hay. Plastic bag storage also more easily damages hay during transit. Since we're shipping hay directly to you, these problems are avoided. Instead of putting the hay into bags, we put hay into sturdy boxes that protect it from sunlight and handling during transit.
