Starring Gene Wilder in the title role, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory may not be the most faithful Roald Dahl adaptation to hit the big screen, but there’s a strong argument that it’s the best. Even Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, with their 2005 release Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , couldn’t come close to this 1971 musical version. Even nearly four decades later, it’s a surprisingly dark yet ultimately utterly joyful film, as Charlie Bucket finds his golden ticket and gets to join four gruesome children on a tour of the factory of the film’s title. What’s more, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is packed with toe-tapping, memorable musical numbers, a terrific cast of young performers, and a memorable lead performance from Wilder. His Willy Wonka is a complex creation, veering unpredictably between likeable and quite sinister. And it’s a performance that sticks in the mind long, long after the credits have rolled. The Blu-ray release sadly doesn’t present the copious extra material in high definition, but the main feature has benefited from a solid improvement. It’s a bright, colourful and imaginative film for long periods, and the transfer work is up to the job. There are moments where the material shows its age a little, but this is a good upgrade from the DVD edition, and the picture and audio both show genuine improvements. It’s also the finest way to own what’s undoubtedly the best version of the book to make it to the big screen to date. This film is great this is the original there have been so many re-makes since This is the Gene Wilder movie everyone plays a fantastic part including the children. This is about one boy's dream I highly recommend this movie especially to families with children.

Great price and fast service. I consider this to be the best ever version of the Roald Dahl story with the brilliant Gene Wilder, along with a great cast, scenery and songs. Timeless!!!

“We are the dreamers of dreams”
Amazing, wholesome family film. One of the greatest films of all time. Arrived in good conditio. Although one thing: it never arrived with the outer slip cover as shown in the product image. Also, the 4k version of the film, has a different framing than the previous versions of image and crops parts out that were previously shown. But it tends to centre objects in the image better and colours are more vibrant. An necessity for any Willy Wonka fan, as it is the best quality version to date.

A classic 'golden ticket' film with a great message to adults and childrenn alike
Written by Raoul Dahl, with music by Anthony Newley, and filled with suprises galore, this children's classic is vividly brought to life by the incomparable Gene Wilder who plays Willie Wonka. We meet Charlie and his lazy good-for-nothing family and a whole host of parents who have reared the most obnoxious children imaginable who are invited to a tour of a chocolate factory (filmed in the Tobler factory in Switzerland) and to be given a lifetime supply of chocolate IF they win one of five 'golden tickets' hidden in five 'Wonka' bars. The film is full of twists and turns - as the winners embark on their weird, dark, sinsiter tour - filled with lots of philosophical statements on the way. What happens to the 'winners'? You will just have to watch this fabulous classic to find out.As to the cinematography - its magical. Be warned - you will come away with a different outlook on life as you enter and leave a 'world of sweet imagination'.

Der Film zog mich von der ersten, bis zur letzten Minute in seinen Bann. Ich kenne sowohl diese Fassung, als auch die Neuverfilmung mit J. Depp. Jede von Ihnen fasziniert auf seine Weise. Diese Verfilmung empinde ich als wärmer. Zwar wirkt Willy Wonka manchmal kalt, fast grausam aber noch mehr, als in dem anderen Film, stellt Gene Wilder auf unvergleichliche Weise auch die Wärme dar und die Freude, die Willy Wonka zu dem machen, was er ist. Es gibt ein Interview mit Gene Wilder auf der Blue Ray. Dort wird erwähnt, dass Erwachsene oft mit dem Kopf schütteln und ein wenig erschreckt und pikiert sind über die konsequente und leicht gruselige Ader von Willy Wonka aber die Kinder ganz simpel feststellen: Wieso, sie wurden doch gewarnt, das haben sie doch verdient. Wer den Film sieht, für den ist sicher auch dieses Interwiew eine interessante Erweiterung der Eindrücke. Alles in Allem ein Film, der von allem etwas bietet. Spannung, Frohsinn, Einfühlsamkeit, Traurigkeit, Anregung zum Nachdenken, zum genießen und noch so viel mehr.
