The Gauntlet [1977]

Clint Eastwood is always good with his sly sense of humor. Partnered with Sondra Locke they were both great. Good film with action from the start. Well worth watching.

Favourite Eastwood films include The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dirty Harry, The Beguiled, Escape from Alcatraz & this, The Gauntlet. Not a popular choice it seems but i love it and i think people take this over the top film way too seriously, it`s meant to be tongue in cheek! Also must give a special mention to Sondra Locke,this is the best performance i`ve seen from her. I get the feeling they were at the height of there real life love affair before stormy times, they work together just perfectly here. So if you fancy an OTT action packed fun film with great chemistry this may be for you.

Clint Eastwood is on top form in this movie, both clint and Sondra Locke work well. this story tells of detective ben shockley played by clint, given the assigned task of escorting gus mally, played by miss locke who is is testify in a mob trial. which we soon find out that the mob doesn't want gus to be a witness, and so this great adventure then starts. pq is great on this blu ray, 1080p 2.35.16.9.

The film though somewhat far-fetched is hugely entertaining, I've not watched this 1977 movie for some time, glad I took time-out to re-visit it. 'Phoenix' Cop 'Ben Shockley' has never quite achieved his ambition to be involved and solve that one big case. these days he tends to drink too much. He has been chosen by 'Commissioner Blakelock' (William Prince) to escort a key -witness '''Prostitute' 'Gus Mally'(Sandra Locke) from 'Vegas' back to 'Phoenix' for what 'Ben' (Clint Eastwood) has been told is a nothing trial. The assignment is one that he will soon learn is one that he's not expected to complete. When he learns there is a book running on his and 'Mally's' chances of completion with odds of 50-1 and rising. The fears that 'Mally' has are soon realized as they become under threat from the word go. Going to 'Vegas' Airport for a flight to 'Phoenix' no longer an option after a Police ambush at 'Mally's' home where the two had stopped off for her to change her clothing. 'Ben' after a little bit of logical thinking from 'Mally' begins to realize he'd been chosen as a no hoper, in fact expendable, he realizes that there has to be a conspiracy which stems from his 'Phoenix' headquarters itself. The nothing trial could well be high-profile, 'Mob' related in fact. After another set-up situation the two face a hazardous and eventful journey to 'Phoenix' What 'Ben' hasn't counted upon however is the explosive welcome that awaits them in 'Phoenix' Many exciting incidents along the way as 'Officer Shockley' attempts to complete the mission he'd been give against all odds. The picture quality is much better than some of the upgrades I've seen of 'Clint's' in recent years.......although a 'U.S' Import purchase, the good news is that it is 'Region-Free' ( 'Clint Eastwood' and 'Sandra Locke' were partners in real-life 1976- 1983 )

Der Film ist der Hammer. Ben Shockley, ein cooler Streifenpolizist soll einen Zeugen aus dem Gefängnis in Las Vegas holen. Der Zeuge "Gus" entpuppt sich als eine Zeugin ( Sondra Locke), eine Dirne, die sich weigert, die Zelle zu verlassen und mit Ben zurück zu fahren. Kein Wunder, denn als Ben die gefesselte Augistina Malley (wie sie im Film richtig heißt) zum Auto bringt, fliegt es plötzlich in die Luft. Gerade noch rechtzeitig, so das Ben über Augustinas Warnung nachdenken kann: Die Mafia ist hinter ihr her. Nun kämpfen sie sich beide von einer tödlichen Falle in die Nächste. Ben weiß ja da noch nicht, das auch sein Chef ein böses Spiel mit ihm spielt. Wirklich atemberaubend actionreich, teilweise auch zum schmunzeln über Clint Eastwood und seine Bemerkungen. Clint Eastwood führte auch bei diesem Film Regie und stellte sich dar als eiskalter Cop, der nie aufgibt und seinen Auftrag beendet.... . Super.
