Can this be placed outdoors? Is it waterproof?

This is not waterproof the fuzzy fabric would definitely not dry quickly at all and I’d expect mildew to slowly form. If it’s in an enclosed area it may fair alright but I think it’s really meant for indoor use.

What are the posts on the wood version made of? Are they wood or cardboard please?

They are wood. Probably MDF, but solid and it is a very sturdy tree. I now have 4 cats and they have never tipped it over. The top is the most popular spot. I have already washed the cover on the top in the washer and it went back perfectly.

Does it come with beds for inside the boxes?

Yes, padded pillows. Our cats cannot fit inside the beds though, pay close attention to the measurements given, they are smaller than we anticipated.
