Quality product
These fids are very easy to use and a great size. Very economically priced, it doesn't take an arm and a leg to replace it if lost or misplaced.

Plastic fid
My experience is service related. I used to do back splices and eye spices in braided line all the time. My rating of this product is because I was using this product on anything but new braided line. And because the line was not new, it was stiff. And difficult to work with. The fid is only 6 inches long! Therefore it made it difficult to push through the stiff line. IMO: If this product was four to six inches longer, it would have alleviated a lot of my frustration

Great Winch Line Repair Tool
This tool made splicing a broken nylon winch line a snap. This is a must for your SxS.

Ok, but lots of room for improvement
Similar sentiment to other reviews about the surface finish being rough. Really large rough bits of mold flash all over them. They could certainly improve the product with some QC checks and a bit of post processing in like a media tumbler. I had to smooth each one for a significant amount of time to get them to the point where they did not snag dynema fibers. For the money you can decide. If you are just doing a few splices on 1/4" or 6mm dynema, a ball point pen and bit of tape is probably just as good if not even easier since you wont need to spend time to smooth it a bunch. I'm neither happy or disappointed with these, just ok for the money I guess. Have one in the glovebox for the winch line and used the small one for some small dynema slings.

Mariners splicing Fids
These make splicing rope easy, the three sizes should be kept on every sailboat, made out of durable aBS plastic good buy for the money. They come in three of the most common sizes for working on the most common thicknesses of rope aboard yachts. Yeah the thickness was just right until they were stolen. Going to have to buy some more.

Don't waste your time on these.
These are total JUNK. They are the wrong length for the diameter rope they are meant for, so you can't use them to measure with. The hole in the back of the "fid" is too small to put the rope core into... so you have to tape it on to make it stay. And worse yet the Fid's are also to thick to pass through the rope cover, especially where you have to pull the core past itself under the cover when making a loop. You are better off using a pencil.

Great FID set
Very light weight and very affordable. I did have to sand the seams left by manufacturing mold, other than that, I have had no issues and have use these, especially the smaller sizes, a lot.
