could I melt this and fill it in a hole and let it harden?

yea it’s is the closest thing to an all natural epoxy besides many applications of a drying oil which would form an even harder matrix. A polymer like a well cured drying oil [natural] or epoxy [synthetic] will always be more durable for that type application. Think of many layers of well cured oil based paint versus extremely hard natural wax such as carnauba. The 25 layers [or whatever hehe] of polymerized oil based is gonna last a lot longer than the hole filled with wax.

Will this work to polish a knife?

Carnuba is not a polishing compound but a finish protectant. Look for “polishing compound” for whatever type of metal you have. I don’t think you would want to wax a knife.

Is this food safe? I’d like to wax the underside of my glass pan lids (as anti-fog while cooking) but I want to use a food safe product.

This product is 100% carnauba wax. It’s commonly used as an ingredient in the food and drug industry. We don’t expressly recommend using ours as a food additive for liability purposes however our products are made to industry standards using the highest quality raw materials.
