Very good movie!
Don’t pay attention to the reviews, it’s a shame the way it some reviewers bombed it and the reasons they bombed it. This is a very good movie, well worth the time and money. It was wonderful to see Val Kilmer in here.

NESBO ON FILM A STEEP CLIMB, FREEZING OUT MOST VIEWERS
To start, the reader should know that I have read all the Nesbo HH books and his available movies. So what Nesbo creates in mystery intrigues me, most tantalizing being the dead end clues he dolesout in abundance, and the psychological intensity that jumps off the page but cannot register on the screen..Given that, I fully appreciate the critics who find the film puzzling, slow, and less than enjoyable..Since most fellow Americans I know do not read books and expect mystery to be spoon fed by tv formulae, frustration with the film is understandably abundant..I join those critics who disliked the disjointedstructure, and I agree that reviewers who have not read Nesbo will wonder what the film is about. What most viewers can agree to are the stunning visuals of Norway landscapes and themes of isolation..But remember that adapting even the most popular mystery literature to film has typically not fared well.My familiarity with the HH characters and those few HH struggles to love, not possible for an addict, isportrayed well but obliquely, as are all relationships, a Nesbo mainstay..My rating comes about from myadmiration for the skill of the filmmakers in taking up the challenge of capturing what they can of anovel that cannot satisfy the casual viewer..visually..When reading, passages can be reread when thingsseem remiss, but the film viewer has no opportunity to stop and reflect; the action must move, with keyto film as entertainment is to give the audience no opportunity to think if anything makes sense..

Do yourself a favor and ignore the bad reviews
Like the other positive reviews stated. I also don’t understand the hate for this movie. I purchased it because renting wasn’t an option. Thrillers are my favorite genre of movies and books so I’ve seen and read some really amazing books and seen some amazing movies. Seven, Wind River, Silence of the Lambs this is not but holy moly I couldn’t believe how much hate this movie got that my curiosity got the best of me so I bought it and sat there and watched it and waited for it to suck so bad I would regret my $14.99 purchase 1/2 way through the movie I was still invested and by the end I was still invested. Sure his name sucks...Harry Hole? Seriously I see this kid getting teased as a kid growing up and the ex girlfriend was meh but it was entertaining to me. Well acted. Having read the book I thought there were areas where they could have developed the characters more. Explain why Harry was an alcoholic more information on Katrina. Wish they took the whole “nipple route” if you read the book you would know what I’m talking about. Honestly I hated the book and found the movie far more entertaining. Look I’ve seen some thriller movie crap “Fracture” I hated and I’m a Ryan Gosling fan and I actually was dumb enough to purchase “Frozen Ground” talk about crap. It just goes to show don’t always listen to the reviews and just see for yourself. I mean I also enjoyed The Girl on the Train and everyone hated that too.

Kept my interest
A good nordic noir entry with a stellar cast. Very atmospheric in a monochrome sense with some interesting twists and turns. Not sure why it got such poor reviews.

Terrific Atmospherics Along With Excellent Acting Chops
The city of Oslo and other locales in Norway during winter make for an ideal atmosphere for the unfoldment of this psychological thriller. At any given point in time up to near the end the audience is mostly ahead of the protagonist, Inspector Harry Hole of the Oslo Police, in terms of clues about who may be responsible for so many murders of mostly women. The killer has a consistent M.O. and there are persistent commonalities between the victims. Out of all the personalities presented in the story there is only one who can be the killer and his identity is rather subtly suggested rather early in the film by virtue of the tools he uses and possible connections of these tools with his profession. The Snowman might have been even more engaging if more details were kept from the audience to engross them in the detection work. Still, no complaints here. A good thriller is hard to come by these days and I enjoyed watching The Snowman. The star power does this film a lot of good whereas lesser actors may not have been able to elevate The Snowman to a four star status.

Confused
Ok first off this was a great film, great thriller. I love Val Kilmer but I am so confused about why he was in this movie. His role was never explained or fleshed out, it was like a random cameo for no reason. Same for another British actor I love. I felt like they were trying to weave two movies together and forgot to. Other than that it's ok, they don't explain what happens to his female partner, I like for things to be closed, and this just didn't do that for me. I know it was a movie but I found myself wondering if there was a part 2 so it could be finished.

The Snowman Is Just Lukewarm
Wow! What a complete letdown movie. I expected to see more of a crime/serial killer movie as portrayed in the trailers. Instead we get a very watered down version of a blah thriller. If your looking for a great film with lots of 'Snowman' murders...forget it. The film mainly follows Michael Fassbender's character as he tries to find clues to a killer who has killed years before. The device the killer uses is ingenious (don't know if it is an actual medical device or not) and I would have liked to have seen it used a little bit more (I like horror movies also...so sue me). This is a movie I would have probably rented if not for the trailers that pushed the serial killer/snowman angle really hard. However, I will watch this again because it is a decent little mystery but be forewarned that you find out who the killer is at the prologue. The guessing of who he is as an adult is the trick. See if you can figure it out before Michael does. Great cast and no one hogs the film and the ending is also tipped off by the prologue. Good film but like I said, don't watch it expecting to see the Snowman hard at work. It just doesn't happen.

Could have been so much better.
Poor. Uneven, disjointed, massive plot holes, and jumps about with no real logic. A shame because it has a great cast. Could have been so much better.

Interesting, psychological thriller
The story was interesting, but I found it dragging in some spots. Also, was somewhat confusing. I though the lead character was the boy portrayed in the beginning in the flashback scenes-discovered much later it wasn't.

Great, slow moving thriller
Great Suspense Thriller, European style. It's a slow moving movie with a terrific cast. This movie definitely has that European feeling, shot in Oslo (Norway), not your typical Hollywood production which in my opinion is a plus for this movie. There is a lot of character development, but it's to the benefit of the viewer. It has some violent scenes in it. The story progression is slower than expected however it just makes the movie better. The Blu-ray video quality was very good.
