Nutritious, Delicious, Cockatoo-Approved Food!
My cockatoo, Daisy, is 27 years old and on the cusp of her senior years. I initially ordered the Nutriberries for senior pet birds, because it reduced the amount of protein in her diet, thereby helping to prevent kidney disease, a common malady among pet birds. Due to her instinctively cautious behavior when she is introduced to new foods and toys, I was uncertain if she would accept the Nutriberries. However, she took to them immediately. I presume her positive response might be the result of the product's resemblance to nuts. She consumed them with enthusiasm, and they are one of her favorite foods. How do I know? Well, whenever she sees me place her ration of Nutriberries in her bowl, she literally drops whatever tasty morsel she is nibbling to quickly consume her Nutriberries. Although they are rather pricey, I believe they are more economical than other parrot foods that often get tossed to the bottom of the cage, as parrots tend to be very selective eaters. Daisy does not waste a morsel of her Nutriberries, and I have been a repeat customer for a few months now. I highly recommend this high-quality, nutritious diet for your large parrot.

My old man loves these!
I have a 29-year-old cockatiel (which is pretty old), but he prefers these over the cockatiel berries and gets excited to get them. Before I started supplementing his diet with these, he had really started to decline, and I thought he was close to the end. About two years ago, he started having trouble gripping his perches and had started slipping and falling frequently. Also, his behavior was changing. After adding these into his diet, just one in the morning and one at night because he still wants his regular diet too and will leave these if he gets too many, it was a night and day difference, and he was my little buddy again. He's doing great and is able to move and climb and grip well. He's interactive again and wants attention and treats. There is always a little bit of crumble in the bag, but honestly no more than the small individual bags I pick up off the shelf at the store. Since he only eats two a day, I've been dividing the bag into 4-5 smaller bags and sealing them with my food saver to keep them fresh.

Back to the smaller bags for us.
I've been feeding my older small citron cockatoo this product in the small size bags. I have tried both the parrot and the cockatoo senior nutriberries. Love to see a citron on the cockatoo- macaw pkg. Not much difference, maybe parrot size is a little smaller? I decided to get the parrot 3 lb size bag. I have to admit, I went back to the smaller bags because the same issues everyone else had. Broken, crumbson bottom of bag, and clumped together. I also noticed moths like another reviewer mentioned. Im glad I went back to the smaller senior size bag. I felt I wasted my money on the 3 pound bag, because my bird will waste enough, but these clumps and crumbs were a waste more than half the bag. I went back to the smaller size bag that's also expensive, but isn't smashed and clumped as badly like the 3 pound size. I never noticed moths with the smaller size bags either. Maybe thats why my bird wasted so much of the food in the 3 lb bag. I noticed he wasted much more food from the big bag, and threw out the crumbs he didn't eat. I will continue to buy the small bags. Tired of Wasting money. I noticed the bigger bag isn't available now. I hope they saw the reviews and shouldn't put them in a bag to get smashed and clumps. I cant believe how much money spent and wasted. I will return if this happens in smaller bags. It's his favorite to grab and hold that nutri berry first when I give him other pellets too. I think he gained weight which looked good. But lost weight when had issues with the 3 pound bag. I'll see when the groomer weighs him. We have just started the new small bag. I didn't notice as many cranberries like before. Maybe quality control of fruits etc., or hit and miss. But also trying harrisons food 2 vets recommended. Another expensive food. Lots of varieties and a square shape pellet he rolls around hilariously and plays with it. Roudybush makes a senior pellet too. Not his fave, maybe pellet too small. Like having a 2 year old, i adopted in November. He was on a terrible diet. Only to find out hes 28, after they said hes about 18. I want to give him the longest life after his 3 previous living places. The vet said he was ok, after i found out hes 28, i brought him in to be sure hes healthy. The devastating news was she said dont count on him living to 40. I see female citrons that seem to be older. Having difficulty finding older males. I love him so much I hope the better food's will help him exceed 40. I think because he was on a seed diet at the last place where I got him & he looked terrible. Pro bird mentors said get him out of thstbplace. the vet said no seeds, give pellets. I heard someone say "peanuts" are in some of the nutriberries. Peanuts are not a nut the citron should NOT have. I will read the actual ingredients instead of reading about all the good ingredients on the front of pkg. I am guilty for not reading all ingredients and addives. I heard corn syrup is the binder, which isn't so great either. I am new at getting a senior bird. Thinking maybe saying he was 18 when they knew his previous owner and made a 10 year old error. I paid a lot for him. How many ppl would spend that on an older bird that doesn't have longevity like other species. He acts like a toddler, talks a lot more than other citrons, (I'm told his vocabulary is extraordinary). I hope the food keeps him healthy and . lives longer than the male expectancy. ๐ค Old guy still gets frisky with the back of my hand. Grateful to his previous owners who taught him an extensive vocabulary. He speaks in sentences. I fell in Love with him and AFTER he was in a bird shop over a year I called, he was still there. Not looking like he did when I first saw him there. Bird mentors told me to get him out of there asap. I love him so much, I hope these senior nutriberries will give him a long, healthy, happy life together . ๐งก๐ He's such a smart bird, I have been blessed. He will halp me put his food bowl in the food hatch so I can close the latch. He would pull it in with his beak. He knows move is feet until its secure. They think, are smarter, than many people. Lol. I now wish I would have showed Amazon the clump and crumbs when it arrived. I hate to complain, but since many others had same problem, I hope they have fixed it. I still think I will stick with the smaller size bag Hope no more moths. He didn't want to eat like normal for awhile. That's when I noticed weight loss.. maybe he knew the food had an issue. Observe the behavior and eating habits. Not worth expensive vet visit and tests. Thank you for bringing up the issues with the expensive 3 lb size. We should all get a better replacement. Even if small bags. I was thrilled to find a senior diet he loves.

Can't go wrong with Lafeber
I have used Lafeber products for many years, however this is the first time I have tried the Senior Nutriberries. My Sun Conure says "pretty good" and my Senegal says "okay". As other reviewers have stated, there are more crumbled nutriberries than the round shapes. I think the ingredients of this particular product allows them to crumble easier. My Sun Conure is unable to hold food in his feet so the crumbles in his food dish are no problem for him. The Senegal would prefer more of the shape so he can hold them in his foot, eat what he wants and of course discard what he doesn't Since they are Lafeber, I know they have all the goodness parrots need but people should not be surprised that much of it is in crumbles.

Our Bird Is Smarter than Your Bird!
Just kidding. That's not true. But Socrates is an African Grey who will only say "Hello" to us when we approach her cage to either remove the cage cover or put it back on for the night. It took us a while to realize that she/he talked at all because he/she wouldn't verbalize until we left the room. That is when he/she bursts into loud phrases and noises, making our family room sound like a large party is going on. I used the term "he/she" not because I want to be politically correct, but because she was sold to us as a male (hence the name Socrates). However "he" laid two eggs for us and we had to reassess our name for her. But it was too late by then and Socrates remained her sobriquet. She's been with us now for about 27 years. The only problems we've had with her is that she now hates me and will bite me given the opportunity. Not only does she bite but she frantically beats her wings once she has a good hold on me and does her best to tear off a piece of my skin. And this is from a bird who we raised from a fledgling and even fed her from my mouth. We still can't figure out what caused such a dramatic change but now my wife is in charge of her care and has bonded with her nicely. The problem with any caged bird is that they need to be stimulated in order to stay happy and healthy. Otherwise they will periodically pick their own feathers and get that funny bald looking chest that is far from attractive. We change her toys, make sure that she has fresh water twice a day, and give her veggies and fruits in addition to her standard Nutriberry diet. Of course aging affects birds as well as humans and we decided to try this Nutriberry Senior Bird Parrot Food both for variety and possible additional aging benefits. Fortuantely she likes it. We mix it in with her Garden Veggie and Tropical Fruit food just to give her a bit more variety. We also mist her with water every day and take her out at night, putting her perch right next to me so that I can keep an eye on her to avoid any "sneak attack" she might attempt. This combination of the Senior Parrot food and the change in daily activity has allowed her to stop picking and get all of her chest feathers back again. Now if we could only figure out what she's talking about when she has her own multi-voice private talking parties.

A Balanced, Healthy Treat!
A great, healthy "treat" for our senior amazons!

African Gray loves them
Our senior African Gray parrot really likes the Nutri Berries. She had a health crisis last year and the vet recommended that we give her 3 of these each night. I think she sees them as a treat and readily consumes them. I'd love to order the larger package for her, but we did have one issue with a bag that didn't seal like it should and they must have drawn in moisture from the air because they became a bag of (essentially) birdseed. When the bags are sealed like they should be, we haven't had any issues. So far, the packages we have ordered from Amazon have all arrived fresh.
