Makes delicious, very hot coffee
Definitely the best coffee maker I’ve ever owned. I use Starbucks French Roast whole bean, ground medium with an OXO burr grinder right before brewing. I like coffee very hot, and this one delivers. In my measurements with a Thermopen instant read thermometer, it dripped water into the basket at 197 degrees. I warmed the carafe first with warm tap water (112 degrees). Coffee poured from the carafe at 185 degrees. I made six cups and after an hour, the coffee was 170 degrees with 3 cups remaining, 155 degrees after two hours with 1 cup remaining. It’s also very convenient to use. The water tank is great, no need to pull the coffee maker away from the back wall to pour water in. Same with the swing out basket for the grounds. The pre-soak mode lasts about 30 seconds. I couldn’t taste the difference. It brews fast and quiet. Some reviewers experienced a large amount of steam at the end of the brew cycle. I didn’t experience that. Also, the basket sticks out of the front, so it was clear of my upper cabinets. I just keep it pulled away from my back wall a few inches.A couple of minor quirks. The basket is too short for the #4 filters I have. I need to cut off the top of the filter so it won’t catch when I swing in the basket. Maybe there's a shorter brand of filters? Also, it beeps immediately after the all the water runs through and I’ve discovered there is still water in the filter basket that needs to pass through. I ground the coffee to a medium ground, so it’s not too fine. Wait 30 seconds or so after the beep before you remove the carafe.Overall a great coffee maker that brews hot, delicious coffee and looks very nice!

Best Machine I've Owned
This was a surprise. I'm so used to compromising on my drip pots, but I don't feel I did this time. I really wanted a Technivorm (sp?), but didn't have the $300 for one right now, sooo, I went with the Motif. The thermal carafe pours fine, keeps the coffee reasonably warm for a couple of hours (didn't try longer yet). Really great top for pot, easy to put on and remove. Cleanup is about as easy as it gets. The water reservoir, being somewhat like the Technivorm makes it stupidly simple to get the right amount of water. Removable helps too, but I don't really lift it off very often, but it has an easy grip, won't slip out of your hands.. A bit awkward in its form factor (how it fits on the counter), yet I really don't care, it's a fine machine. Also, very quick to complete brew cycle and I almost forgot, coffee tastes perfectly fine.

Great design and quality cup of coffee
I really like this pot. Overall, makes great coffee, not sure why the pour over machine is better than a standard drip, but the coffee is richer. The pot is sealed tight and keeps coffee fresh and hot. Only complaint is the 8 cup size. I end up pouring an extra cup of water in and dispensing one to get closer to a ten cup capacity. Otherwise, it's great!

Best coffee quality from an auto-drip
So just a week in, so far this coffee maker is fantastic. It’s not as big as it looks in the pics, and fits just fine on the counter without being imposing. It’s actually pretty classy looking. Coffee quality is amazing. I’m a little shocked how smooth this extraction method works. The pre-soak function truly gives it the quality of a meticulous pour over. Brewing time is very fast. It has an auto timer but doesn’t work with pre-soak mode. The plastic structure seems just somewhat fragile, time will tell how it holds up. The basket is small, just barely fits the cone filter, you really need to push it firmly down for it to clear the top when closing or it folds back over. Carafe is awesome. Holds coffee piping hot for 2 hours or more. So yeah, so far so good, love that I’m buying a locally (Seattle) designed product.

Stopped working after 16 months
Loved this coffee maker. Makes great coffee, easy to use, fits under a low countertop.BUT, it stopped working after just 16 months, clock is still on, but none of the buttons work. Very Sad.

fine but not great
I was disappointed with the coffee - the presoak is far too short, and the grind basket is wonky so filters fold over if you aren't extra careful (as others have mentioned). It's not half as good as some of the other SCA recommended brewers

Good simple pour-over coffee maker
Had this coffee maker for over a month now and use it at least once a day. Has performed flawlessly and is very simple to use. I use the pour-over selection on most pots and it seems to work well. The thermal carafe surprisingly keeps an entire pot hot for about one-half to two hours and warm up to six hours. Attractive and clean European look to this machine. Very easy to clean and I’m careful when removing the coffee grain assembled based on previous reviews being there is a small plastic hook function. Have had no problems and overall it appears/feels well made for this price range. In addition to all the pros, it does make a full 8 cup carafe in about 5-6 minutes.
