Really Good Value Camera
This camera was recommened to my husband by a work colleague. i looked at other internet reviews and all in all was impressed with the comments. The few negative ones seemed to be from people who had bought faulty models. I am very pleased with my camera which is easy to operate, and gives clear pictures of a good quality. An excellent buy for the money.

FANTASTIC FUJIFILM S2980
I got my camera a few days now, the sun is out and I am pointing and shooting at anything that moves, or sits on the beach. Great camera, sits in my hand nicely, small yet not too small, stable and easy to use, plus it has this professional look, not afraid to whip it out in public. As for the price, unless it just explodes for no reason, this camera is cheap, almost too good to be true. I am going to buy a wider shoulder strap and a fancy case now, to top off my look as a Pro........... PS usual stuff, came on time well packaged etc

Unlucky? - apparently not
I have updated this review on the strength (!) of the other one star reviews this camera has been given. There seems to be little doubt that you have a good chance of buying a defective camera. Like other reviewers, it is impossible to understate the aggro that results in a camera breaking down when you are on holiday. Subsequently I have tried to get this fixed but it was too expensive to do so, considering that there is no long-term guarantee that the problem will not recur...... Bought this about 18 months ago to replace a similar one. It's a fine camera, but after a few months the lens stopped moving and I got it fixed under the guarantee. And a few months ago, a few days into my big summer hols., it happened again. To say that I wasn't pleased would be an understatement! Buyer beware. The problem seems to arise when the camera is switched on with the lens cover on.

Budget Bargain
A few months ago I set out to buy my first proper digital camera. I'd had SLRs in the past - Canon, Minolta, my good old Praktica! - and I used to develop my own B&W photos. But, with a budget of around £100, less that I'd paid for my most modest SLR, I wasn't thinking much above a slightly sophisticated point and shoot. What a surprise it was to see this little gem at the silly price of £107. Even less now. If you're looking for your first digital camera then I don't think you'll find anything better than this. Yes, it points and shoots in SR mode (Scene Recognition) but it also has manual, shutter and aperture priority and the little gift of a Panoramic mode. The results are in and it's great. I've shot about 500 photos now and I'm staggered by the results. It also feels like a good, solid SLR and there's even a viewfinder for days when it's too sunny to see the screen, or for those of us who just prefer to use a viewfinder. If you haven't had a camera since the SLR age, then get this one. There really is nothing to fear! My only reason for not giving five stars is that the flash is too harsh in most situations. Putting a small piece of tissue over it helps diffuse the light a little. But in every other respects the results (compared to my old SLR cameras) are remarkable. AND you can take movies with it! The results are fine for home movies but there's a lot of hiss and the focusing can be erratic. Use it for the kids, though, and it's fine. There's a Quick Start manual, enough to take you through the basics but the rest of it you have to download. It's clear, though, simple and logical and describes all the features you'll soon find yourself experimenting with. Go on, treat yourself. At under £100 (at the time of writing) you'll be glad you did.

An ok camera but something of a disappointment
I bought this camera to replace my trusty Finepix S8000fd, which is sadly no longer produced - I loved that camera but it suddenly developed a fault which meant that pictures were either full of streaks (like interference on a tv screen), or the colours were confined to shades of purple, or it produced a mangled image. The cost of repair is likely to be more than buying the S2980, so I chose a new camera. This camera has the same 18x manual zoom but at 14 mega pixels instead of 8; it is supposed to have the same dual image stabilising system and has the additional panorama facility as well as a larger screen. I was disappointed as soon as I opened the box, since the camera seems less robust and less sturdy than the S8000fd; it appears to weigh slightly less and the controls and buttons are more cramped together, meaning there is less free space for my right thumb when holding the camera. A major concern for me is the dual stabilising system which is via menu options instead of the dial and a button. Even after consulting the user's manual I could not decide exactly how to set up the dual system via the menus; it seems very confusing and due to a medical condition I rely very much on the stabiliser to prevent camera shake. I have also noticed a slightly greater delay in the shutter firing after pressing the button, even after pre-focussing, which is annoying and inconvenient when trying to capture wildlife shots. I doubt I will ever use the panorama function, which is just as much a gimmick as the cascading screens on Windows Vista (something else I suspect nobody ever uses). It's ok for the price but not nearly as good as my old camera.

A step up onto the SLR ladder of hope
I did the easy step from a point and shoot to this bridge camera as I could not afford an SLR but I wanted to try and get the hang of using settings on a camera instead of automatic. I have now had this for a few months now and, once i stuck in a decent SD card, (32GB), and a bunch of AA batteries, (rechargeable as this needs four at a time), and away I went, snapping happily away in the manual setting of the camera. It has a lot of settings, many options, some I have tried, others I have not. The view finder is nice and easy to get my eye near, although it could have been better with a little bit of a rubber surround so that my face wasn't constantly pressing on the screen. It's not a problem but the thoughts there. It can even do videos, which many can these days, although the video setting are pretty basic but you do get a cracking bit of footage from video and brilliant photos from the stills setting. It gives out some brilliant colours, even giving you the options of black and white and other options, with each one giving as good a result as many other cameras out there. The zoom is fantastic, being able to zoom in so close that you can see the hairs in the birds nostrils as it flies high over head. So, if you're after the a good price camera that is a step up to the SLR world then this is worth thinking about.

Nice camera, deeply disappointing experience.
I bought this to take on a six-week trip to India. Had a great couple of weeks learning to use it and taking some great shots, really getting to like the camera. Then - a week into the holiday - it stopped working. A message appeared every time I switched it on, to switch off and on again; it was essentially dead. So, holiday of a lifetime with no camera. But at least there were a couple of hundred shots and videos on the card from the first week. Getting home I find that when I try to upload the photos, the card is not formatted. It seems that the camera malfunction may have also wiped the card. I contact Fuji's repair service, the man on the phone recommends I include the memory card and a letter for his attention. It's a smoothly organised service (though I have to pay £7.50 to send the camera in) and the camera comes back within a week, working. But the card is now re-formatted and completely blank. So my letter explaining the problem with the card appears to have been completely ignored. So, apart from a dozen pictures I uploaded to Facebook when travelling, I have nothing. I have a camera that I don't trust not to fail again, and a memory card that might also be faulty.

Amazing
This is the first camera I have had and its great, easy to use, quick to load pictures to your laptop, pretty much does it itself once connected, can also connect to t.v to view photos. After only using it once the photos have turned out lovely and thats on the auto settings. It comes with a strap, lense cover, and 4 AA batteries which is great. One tiny thing is that you must have a memory card before taking photos or they don't save, but are cheap to pick up. I have a 32gb card and after 300 photos it only used about 1-2gb and cost £20. Would definalty recommend this and its a great price. Also arrived very quickly :)

Davvero lascerà a bocca aperta! Davvero PERFETTA!

Fujifilm FinePix S2980 Digi-Kamera
