Before I started supplementing my vitamin D intake, I would always test clinically low for vitamin D. I haven't gotten tested in a long while, but I am happy to be taking these D3 + K2 pills from ProHealth. The company appears to be a well-established brand with high manufacturing standards, and this formulation is designed to help your body absorb and synthesize the vitamin D more effectively. The caps are small and easy to swallow.

After doing a little research online, I found that vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that regulates calcium and phosphorous levels in the body, whereas the vitamin D3 is the natural form of vitamin D produced by the body from sunlight. After reading this, I was curious about how vitamin D3 is synthesized. After doing a little more research, I learned that the synthetic version normally begins with the yummy sounding 7-dehydrocholesterol, most commonly sourced from wool oil. When exposed to ultraviolet light, this is turned into cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3. If you look at the label with the ingredients, you will see that cholecalciferol is the ingredient for vitamin D3 in the ProHealth Longevity Vitamin D3 supplements. I'm an omnivore, so this is fine for me, but vegans might opt out.At $39.95 for 90 capsules, these are expensive at $.44 each. It is interesting to note that ProHealth sells 100 capsules of vitamin D3 5000 I U without the K2 for $.12 each, so obviously the K2 is the expensive ingredient.

This is a good, but basic vitamin D + K supplement.It's just 5000IU vitamin D, 100mcg Vitamin K (MK-7 form), and 2.5mg bioperine.I personally prefer a higher dose of vitamin K (120-180mcg) and also a blend of MK-7 + MK-2, but the 100mcg is still a good dosage. This is not an oil-based softgel, so this supplement will likely have somewhat lower bioavailability compared to softgels. I would recommend taking it with your largest meal of the day, as D and K are fat-soluble vitamins and absorb best with fat.The bioperine dosage is negligible and I don't think there is enough research to indicate that it considerably increases bioavailability of D or K.Overall, great quality supplement, but a very standard formulation and not softgel form.

This is what exactly we need especially if you live in the northeast where we do not get enough sunlight. The capsule is easy to swallow and I take it during meals with water for optimal absorption.This is a vegan-friendly supplement due to the fact that it uses veggies instead of animal gelatin. It does not use silica and stearate as anti-caking and flow agents and instead uses organic brown rice. This supplement is clean, has no additives, no toxic ingredients, and is all-natural.I love the formulation of this supplement. The only thing that may discourage you from buying this is the price.
