great book
Hard to put this biography of Amelia Earhart down. Well written, researched down to the fine details of her life, conveying the unique hero worship Amelia inspired.

A unique look at an aviation icon
So many have attempted to chronicle this aviatrix's many accomplishments. Was she a good pilot or simply just lucky? Rumors, speculations, hypothesis abound but the reader can judge for themselves. A second deep-sea expedition late in 2024 may uncover the truth about her and Fred Noonan lost in the vastness of the Pacific...or was she really just 100 miles within Howland before the gas finally gave out?

Amelia remains a legend
I've seen movies and read articles on Amelia Earhart and expected the book to cover similar ground on her life.Surprised to find a legend who deserved by all measures of her character to be a heroine. Male biographers might have emphasized her flying skills and love of adventure. Doris Rich covered her social and emotional life in more detail than her flying feats. Too many heros are flawed people, she wasn't. I respect Amelia for her choices that benefitted her family, friends and country more than her own. She respected her fans and supporters with tireless public contact to be the best aviation spokesman in 1930's. This author tries to cover a complex persons life and gets the human side about right. Other books may detail the flying adventures better.

A meteor in the sky
Human progress follows a crooked path. Who would think that a brash upstart from the U.S. heartland could blaze a trail across so many fields? She is a character from Horatio Alger. Amelia Earhart had dreams that only boys of the era dared try. Truck driver, business person- and most of all, a record-setting pilot. She said when she went, she wished to die in her plane. If you knew the state of hand-tuned av radios, the variable nature of low-frequency transmissions, and especially the challenge of finding an island in the Pacific- she was gambling with her life. Read the last chapters to catch her final hours, and in the epilogue, interviews with knowledgeable sources in the Navy, U.S. and Japanese authorities.Good pictures, well footnoted. To see when it was finally accomplished, see: World flight;: The Earhart trail .

I so hoped for more glamor
Well, so much for Amelia Earhart as a romantic figure, from a romantic moment in history. Gave me the details i wanted about her life though.

Very inspiring..
There was so much in this book about Amelia Earhart that I didn't know. I've always admired her courage and successes, but I had no idea she had done the many things she had, some at the risk of and ultimately at her own peril.

A good book clubber's choice
A very moving tribute to an interesting historical figure.. Doris L Rich captured Amelia's spirit so well that I felt as if I were livingAmelia's life right along with her. A "winner"... Book clubbers will enjoy it.
