This is a great product that I wish was explained more clearly so people knew why they need it! What’s left unsaid is to ditch the fabric softener because it’s only masking the real problem with your laundry - too much detergent!! America is hooked on laundry detergent I guess, everyone I know is overdosing the detergent … and I too used to be one of them. I thought more detergent = cleaner clothes but in reality too much detergent doesn’t thoroughly rinse out, and all the residue left behind makes clothes look dull and feel rough. So I overdosed the fabric softener to “fix” that problem and lived my days April Fresh, not realizing how I was shortening the life of my clothing. This Downy Rinse & Refresh is not a fabric softener, but it will help your clothes come out softer because it helps rinse away all the built up mineral deposits and detergent residues. And, along with that, it’s helping rinse away stink-causing bacteria that’s trapped by those residues. Have you ever heard of using vinegar in the rinse cycle to soften clothes? This Rinse & Refresh works the same way, only 10x better. I prefer unscented so I can smell if my clothes don’t come clean, but if you’re hooked on the fragrance of softeners this comes in scents that are just as strong. The other day I left a clean load of towels in the washer overnight and it had a faint funky smell when I finally remembered it. I ran it through a warm speed wash cycle but instead of detergent I put 1/4 cup of this in the detergent drawer (since the towels were already cleaned and I was doing an extra “rinse”) and my towels and washer smelled funk free when it was done! I definitely recommend using this with your towels, it can help get them softer and more absorbent. There’s no measuring cap attached but I’ve been using 1 to 2 ounces (1/8 - 1/4 cup) in the rinse cycle, depending on load size and weight. (A full load of towels is heavy so I use more than I do with a load of athletic wear.)

I really love this. It helps remove any lingering scent from laundry, like from pets, food, or smoke so your clothes emerge fresh from the wash. It hasn't bothered my skin and I use it in all of my washes. It's a little expensive but it's worth it.

I noticed my daughter's clothes were coming out of a fresh wash still smelling like stinky teenager, especially the armpits. I'm very sensitive to scents so I ordered this scent free Downy odor remover and was blown away by how well it works! I put maybe 1/4cup in the fabric softener part of my washer and her clothes come out clean with no smell! The large 48oz bottle is a little awkward for pouring into the toploader's softener slot without spilling, so I grabbed a small bottle with a handle and no-spill pour spout to put this into and it works much better.

Really happy with this—keeps my laundry fresh and soft without any strong smells, which is perfect for sensitive skin. Clothes come out feeling clean and comfortable, not heavy or coated like some other fabric softeners. I also liked that I got it with a discount, so it felt like an even better deal for something I’ll keep repurchasing.

So far I think it’s doing the job, but I honestly haven’t noticed a big difference compared to regular softener. It is gentle and I do think it helps with removing odors from clothes, but overall nothing really stands out or feels dramatically different. I mostly use it as an extra boost, but I wouldn’t call it a miracle product since I don’t notice a major difference and my family hasn’t mentioned anything either. I’m also not sure if I’m supposed to use this with Downy softener or instead of it, and if it’s both, I’m not sure where they both go since there’s only one dispenser for softener. I’m giving it 4 stars because I do like Downy Free & Clear products in general, but I’m just not totally sure what the purpose of this one is for me personally. I probably won’t buy it again since I’m not fully sure how it’s intended to be used.

Downy has created a great product! I have a special needs adult son who has sensitive skin. I use this with his laundry (on his chucks, and soiled clothing) and it truly works!
