This is the tool we had been missing! With lots of hardwood floors and 2 dogs we were constantly sweeping (fur and outdoor stuff) and mopping (paw prints). Cudos to Vacuum Wars for testing this out against dozens of other Aand recommending it over moser expensive options. It arrives in a single medium sized box and requires a few simple steps to assemble. Plug in the handle, remove some packing cardboard, then you’re ready to fill the water tank and get to work. It does require a bit of technique. I found that working backwards produced the best results, otherwise working forward resulted in my leaving footprints in the freshly washed floor. Key points about this that I really like: 1) doesn’t use any soap. Just add tap water to the tank, turn on and move the handle down and wait for the counter to get to 100. It takes about 1 min from cold to be working. 2) clean up afterward is really easy. Tip out the shockingly dirty water, rinse out the tank and pull off the plastic strainer to get rid of the larger chunks. Don’t forget to rinse the roller and roller cover. I found the the dog hair was sticking to these areas and would also get stuck in the connector between the roller and tank. That’s pretty easy to clean out though, although not really discussed in the short instructions. 3) comes with a second roller so you can swap out if you’re doing a marathon cleaning session 4) works ok on rough stone floors. We have slate tiles in the entry way and they are rough finished. Not ideal, but it works and is still better than a wet mop. The 1 thing I’m not thrilled with, but isn’t a deal breaker, is when you’re finished and turn off the unit, it tends to leave a dirty, wet streak where the roller contacts the floor. Easy to wipe with a paper towel, but just be aware this happens. Otherwise, it’s a great time saver and the floors are now consistently clean with not a lot of setup or clean up.

The Tineco FLOOR ONE S5 Steam (hereafter referred to as "S5") is my third attempt (also have a Hoover and a Karcher) to find a hard floor (both ceramic tile and hardwood) cleaner that not only cleans (they all pretty much do that), but is also not a major hassle to setup for each use. I believe I have found the answer in the S5. The Karcher uses rollers for cleaning like the S5, but has two smaller rollers on either side of a drive unit which leaves a cleaning "gap" which requires considerable overlap to cover. It also only scrubs, requiring a prevacuum for any debris and sometimes a postvacuum as well to pick up lint from the rollers. The Hoover does have a vacuum function, but it is a separate mode requiring two passes: one to scrub, one to vacuum the water. It is also ultra-noisy and the dirty water tank has to be emptied at least twice if cleaning all the floors in one go. The cleaning head on the Hoover is also very difficult to thoroughly clean. Tineco does not recommend the use of any cleaning agent with the S5 Steam, so prepping the unit for use simply consists of filling the clean water tank. It vacuums and cleans simultaneously, so no pre- or post-vacuuming required. The unit is very quiet and extremely well-built. Although mostly "plastic" (as pretty much all floor cleaners are these days), it is of very high quality with a solid feeling. Not at all cheap feeling like the Bissell units I've looked at. I was able to do the entire house with just one refilling of the clean water tank (your mileage may vary) and didn't have to empty the dirty water tank until done. I used the steam setting on both the ceramic tile and hardwood flooring and both cleaned perfectly without the use of a separate cleaning solution. Both prior to and after purchase I contacted Tineco with questions and their customer support was excellent both times. The S5 is a bit pricey compared to the competition, but in terms of build quality, ease of use, performance, and customer service, the Tineco S5 Steam is the best choice.
