Very sweet, but low in sugar, and high in everything else you want!
First of all- the macros on this bar are incredible! By far the best I've seen. The taste of the cookies and cream bar is really nice. It's very sweet, but low in sugar. I thought it had a bit of a coconutty taste, but it was nice. I preferred the salted caramel bar (which oddly tasted a little bit less sweet), but this bar is really nice, and for the offer price (+10% student discount), these bars are way too good a deal to pass up.The bars themselves are quite chewy, but personally I don't mind that, it just means the bar lasts a bit longer. I use them on days where I've already worked out and need something to keep me going through lectures. It's nice to have a little bit of crunch in the bars, other than the little protein crispies you get in a lot of bars. Personally, I don't get much of a cookies n cream flavour from it, but I do really like the taste and texture, and the price is so good that I'm going to order another box anyway. These bars are low in calories (for a protein bar), have a huge (20g) kick of protein, have 7g of fibre, and next to no fat and sugar. Well worth the price, you're definitely getting more than you're paying for.

A break-through in protein bars... Nutritionals, Texture & Flavour.
I have always find it hard to find a protein bar that delivers the right nutritionals, whilst being filling and most importantly tasting good. I have tried a variety of bars from brands SCI-MX, USN, PHD & Grenade, however none hit the three key criteria as well as the Maximuscle Promax Protein Bar in Millionaire Shortbread flavour.Firstly, the protein per bar 20g, this is slightly lower than the MaxiNutrition Promax Bar, however 20g is all that is required for myself (75kg male) post workout to aid recovery. As with all protein bars, there is a level of sugar (9.4g) per bar which is slightly higher than some other bars on the market, however the taste of this significantly out-weights a few extra grams of sugar. Being a 'recovery' styled protein bar, the calories are in line with other generic protein bars at 202 per bar, of which 19.3g of carbs - if you're looking for something higher in calories to make those sweet, sweet, gains then go for the Maximuscle Progain Flapjack or the CNP Pro Flapjack. The second key thing was the texture and filling nature of the bar. I have often found many bars to be very chewy and hard to digest. What really surprised me is the sheer difference in texture from this Maximuscle Promax bar compared to the it's MaxiNutrition counterpart (Cookie dough is my favourite). Alike a Millionaire Shortbread, the center is almost crumble, whilst held together with a sweet caramel topping and wrapped in milk chocolate. I found that it was far easier to consume than other bars I have tried and did not stick to the roof of my mouth like others. After consuming I felt suitably full and didn't experience any uneasy stomach symptoms than can be associated with protein bars & shakes.Lastly, the taste is something that can't be overlooked. Understandably this is a functional fitness supplement aimed at helping recovery post exercise and support muscle growth, however the taste is something that leads to a repeat purchase as there is generally not too much differential between the nutritional of many bars in this category. As mentioned above, the center was crumbly and like a slightly more stodgy version of a typical shortbread, this tasted exception, however the highlight of the bar is the caramel topping. I was also pleasantly surprised for it to be encased in milk chocolate, whereas I have typically experienced these kind of bars in dark chocolate.Overall, I have found a new favourite protein bar in the Millionaire Shortbread variant which I will certainly purchase again (if I am not tempted to go with the chocolate brownie!).

Chocolate Brownie Protein Goodness
Let's get the obvious out of the way.1. Protein powder is much cheaper2. Mars bars and snickers bars and milky ways are tastierI don't like messing around with shakes after a work out so have stocked up on a lot of different protein bars to eat directly after a workout. As far as protein bars go, these are quite good (for a protein bar with 20 grams of protein). They will obviously go down easier with a tea or coffee, but I won't have any problems scoffing these after a session. There's a decent amount of fibre in them and the sugar level is not too high. The best flavour is subjective, but I do not think the chocolate brownie flavour is going to divide opinion so it's worth a try.

50/50 IMO
My honest opinion? For the price your gettin these at it’s worth it. For me personally the taste isnt for me, when i first take a bite it’s pretty nice but then after chewing it for a while I honesty start to dislike the weird taste so I normally end up chugging it down with some water. On the other hand I feel as though it really works, I eat one an hour before gym and have some protein shake after, my muscles don’t feel as heavy or in pain after a workout or next day. I guess everyone has different tastes, give it a shot, for the price its not like you’re losing out on much :)

I writing this review having bought two boxes a few weeks apart.I've given a 3 star rating, as I found the first box I bought truly wonderful. Having been a long time buyer of Atkins bars, MyProtein bars and also Grenade bars, I thought I'd found the perfect protein bar.The taste was just like a real confectionery bar, maybe a little over sweet, but a wonderful soft, chewy moreish taste. My 1st box easily scored a 5 stars. Then I ordered my 2nd box. It arrived from Amazon with every bar looking like it had been melted & reset, with caramel having oozed out of all four corners, and a mishmash alternating coloured chocolate coating (dark on top & light around the sides). This 2nd box tasted HARD, and stupidly chewy. Sure the taste was still okay, but the effort in eating it didn't make it a pleasant experience.I'm not sure if this is down to an Amazon storage problem, or an inconsistent production line problem, but it's such a shame. Funnily enough Grenade bars had a very similar problem, as they started out good and then I found along with a lot of other reviews that they were becoming too hard & chewy. At the time I assumed this to be a quick mass production problem, where the product was being produced to a poorer quality, but now I wonder if it's a problem with how Amazon store all this 'Fulfilled by Amazon' food products.I'll be buying one more box of Maximuscle lean Cookies & Cream bars in the hope they are wonderful, like the first time round.
