To all Japanese and US visitors to U.K. and U.K. people travelling form Japan and US
So I’ve owned a number of things like this, and it’s only really good to use for charging your phone.Reason being, UK sockets output at 230v, US sockets output at 110v and Japan 100v.All a converter does is route the power, there is no transformer which steps the voltage down.Remember back in the day when you had old games consoles which had a massive black block on the power cable? , it was to step the voltage down to prevent your console from overheating and blowing up due to your 230v power supply as the console was made in Japan (most likely) based on their 100v outputs so the power cables needed to be adapted. This product doesn’t do that, it’s actually quite dangerous to do, I don’t have any footage, but I bought a humidifier from japan, flew it back to the U.K., plugged it in via a travel adaptor, and the thing worked fine for about 10 seconds, then began smoking and smelling of burnt plastic.I quickly turned it off and used a 230v to 100v transformer converter (which looks similar to this but a big block that plugs in instead) and the appliance worked just fine... same applied with old school games consoles that you have imported... don’t be fooled by products like this unless you are simply using them to plug a phone charger in... but chances are, you have something that can charge your phone anyway as it’s more than likely a USB cable. So please beware and educate yourself.Oh... for reference, the reverse works just fine... you can use a travel adaptor to plug a U.K. device in in a Japanese and American socket , however it will not run at optimal performance... and will require a step up converter :)Cheers
