Follow the instructions - take your time, you canโt go wrong
Iโll admit I was a little worried ordering this paint for delivery. Reading the reviews there were so many depicting exploded tins arriving on the doorstep. Then there were those telling of it being runny paint, terrible coverage etc. The tin arrived with a large piece of tape over the lid, securing it in place, then it was in a heat sealed bag to catch any leaks and had cardboard moulded packaging to hold it safe in the box. The box was then packaged inside another box. It was like pass the parcel, so clearly lessons have been learned in online delivery paint orders! Iโve never gone wrong with dulux paint in the past and this has been no exception. Thereโs a lady on here who posted a very helpful review with a video reminder about how to sweep in an upward direction so as not to get drippy paint lines. Iโve painted a lot of things, and this was not only a good reminder but also very reassuring to know itโs down to the application of the paint not the paint itself. Thank you for posting that. My experience - utterly brilliant. Iโve used it on my wooden garage door which took the best part of three days to strip and sand in preparation - itโs all about the prep! I even hoovered and then wiped down the wood work to make sure there was no dust on the surface. This paint doesnโt need undercoat as itโs 2-in-1, and I put it straight onto the wood. In hindsight, with the age and type of wood it is, I think and undercoat would have been a cheaper option as a lot of this paint has been sucked straight into the wood. As a result I do have a patchy result after one coat. The tin warns you of this if you read the side, so it wasnโt unexpected. The garage door also has a metal edge which the paint went onto perfectly! The brush lines (if you use the sweepy-uppy method) disappeared after a few seconds and it dried totally smooth. Iโm really happy about that, as I was really concerned about the metal edge. The pain is a bit smelly - Iโve got used to those non-spirit based paints so I wasnโt expecting this. But itโs certainly not anywhere near as bad as the toxic stuff I remember my dad using back in the 80s! If youโre using it indoors do it on a sunny day, start early and keep the windows open. Iโm doing a second coat which Iโm confident will have the results I want - a nice smooth satin finishโฆ for the birds to poop on as soon as itโs dry!!! (Shakes fist at pesky pigeons!) Iโve got the front door to do, which will be getting an undercoat first this time, as it too is old and probably quite porous. That will avoid me having to use two coats of the expensive stuff, Iโll slap some cheaper no nonsense undercoat on first, just to make sure it looks perfect when itโs finished. Cleaning the brushes was easy peasy. I used paint brush cleaner and it took all of a few seconds of swishing in that, then a good rinse with warm soapy water. I think the brush is now cleaner than when I started!! All in all, follow the instructions, keep it ventilated, sweep upwards with your brush to work out the paint lines, take your time and enjoy the end result.

Good paint but ....
I am a massive fan of Dulux paints and have used (and still do) them on all sorts of situations both inside and out with great results. I wanted to repaint my front door, back door and garage door, but unfortunately I had used the last of the Dulux Trafalgar Blue paint I have used to for the last 30 years and the colour is no longer available. The nearest to it is 'Oxford Blue' which is a slightly deeper blue, but that isn't a bad thing really. I have never used Weather Shield paint before but I though the name alone meant quality. I usually use the 'Professional' paint for Brilliant White Gloss and Undercoat and that IS a quality paint ! I was a little taken aback when I started to stir this paint as it is 'very' thin ! I carried on regardless, but as a precaution I put down a cotton backed polythene dust sheet, something I have never really used despite buying it, as I load my brush up so it doesn't drip, and have even painted on carpets without using a dust sheet for years... foolish perhaps I know. Believe me you MUST put down a dust sheet when using this paint as even with great care I ended up with about 12 blobs of paint on the dustsheet, not good. Parts of the door had the Dulux Professional White undercoat on it, but the Weather Shield did NOT cover this with one coat, another disappointment for me, as with the 'old' Dulux paints it used to cover no problem. So to sum up, it is very runny (almost like water) and the coverage is not good if you have used a primer or undercoat, I actually had to use 2 coats instead of the usual one. I very nearly only gave it 3 stars but decided on 4 because the end result was REALLY impressive, great colour with a nice deep gloss, to be honest it did look a lot better then the old Trafalgar Blue I had use for the last 30 years or so. I have bought a BIG tin of this for future use (and it was better value for money to buy the bigger tin) and I will definitely use it again, but please do be aware of the two problem areas and you will be OK.

Best external gloss so far.
Fantastic coverage, and as a regular user of paints from different manufacturers, I have to say that this is the best so far. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's very thin for a gloss paint, which made it ideal for use in a spray gun, but it did leave it patchy. A second coat was applied via brush and this covered all the grain marks without leaving any brush marks. The only odd thing is that when applied via the spray gun, it smelled of nothing. However, when applied via brush it was quite noticeable. This probably wouldn't be an issue for external items, but inside my workshop is noticeable. One last piece of advice, in cold and damp conditions like my workshop, items are taking approximately two days to dry before handling. So make note of the weather conditions before painting.
