In your example, to get a 7% solution you would first convert the gallon volume to milliliters, which is 3785.41 ml. Multiply that by .07 to get the the weight of NaOH in grams to add to the water. This works because 1mL water equals 1 gram.

Would this product be good for clearing a clogged sink/tub drain?

You certainly could, but it would be a hugely expensive waste to use laboratory-grade sodium hydroxide, which is costing nearly $4 per ounce, when you get ordinary “pure” (but no lab-grade) for less than fifty cents an ounce. That’s an 800% premium, and I’ll wager that the lab-grade pellets are not the best form for a drain anyway. The smaller tiny beads in drain-cleaner form will flow through a drain more easily. Amazon sells lots of the “pure” drain cleaner. Buy that instead.

It's definitely lab quality NaOH, if that's what you need.

Bought this for making various concentrations of NaOH for garage chemistry experiments. It's nice that they dissolve slowly so I can just add all of my measured amount to the water at once without having to worry about the rapid temperature increase. For my use though, its unnecessary. I purchased 2.5lbs of "food grade" sodium hydroxide for the same price as 100 grams of this stuff and it works just as well. Won't be buying this item again, but by no means is it a bad product.

Used a whole bottle of this pan grade comping to clean my oven. Happy it worked as I was quite frustrated with all other attempts. Surprised it took a high concentration to execute the task effectively. Safety googles, rubber gloves, & N95 mask and sodium hydroxide. Science bitchez!!!!111
