Been working well for us all Summer. Electric bills reasonable.
Electric heat pump action works great. We live in central Indiana, and use this heater to keep our pool at a very comfy 90 degrees! And the electric bill is not bad at all. At about 12A working load, this runs for only 16 cents per hour, and with our smaller 7500 gallon in ground pool, it heats it up by about 1-2 degrees per hour. Taking our pool from 76 degrees to 90 degrees, only costs me about $1.50 to get it there, and only $2/day to maintain it with this heat pump. It's the best investment we made in the pool yet. We had our last swim the first week of October! We expect to get 6 months of use from our pool now, thanks to this heat pump. We've only had it for one summer. So we're not sure yet of it's life span. Hopefully, it lasts for 5+ yrs; that's what we're counting on.

Great quality and value
Quality was good as expected of Hayward. Well packaged on pallet and arrived in perfect condition. Very easy install and suitable for DIY. Great value for the price. Installation documentation did not include how to remotely control from pool automation but a bit of digging on the web filled in the gaps.

Pretty looking— not reliable/ no service.
Bought unit in 2017- mid summer— lasted a month in 2017, and the 2018 season. 2019 compressor condenser went out, no service anywhere, ordered and replaced, lasted rest of 2019, this year, unit dead. Replaced the condenser again since they have a history of failing. Still nothing, I expect the compressor is shot. No service. Hayward is basically a buy at your own risk supplier. Had a HVAC contractor tell me honestly, they charge about $250/hr to work on heat pumps, so if it is not a $4-5k unit, not worth it— he said Imust have got a lemon. $1700 paperweight. Once Hayward gets the money, they are really not interested— on your own.

Imported from China
I just received one of these units to be installed next week, and will update my review. I contacted Hayward directly and asked where the unit was made. The tech support guy said that Hayward products were made in several plants in the US. He also mentioned that nothing is made in Elizabeth, NJ anymore, which is the location of their headquarters. When I received the unit, the nameplate and box shows that it is actually made in China. Nowhere on their website is this indicated.

Working well so far...impressed
Installed this 3 days ago, and it raised the water temp in my pool from low 70s up to 90 in about 12 hours (a 4000 gallon in-ground spool in SW Florida). It literally has had to run only 2-3 hours a day to maintain the temp. I installed it myself, and it was fairly simple and straightforward. It was shipped on a crate by a private shipping company (NOT FedEx or UPS) and they delivered it right into my garage, which was nice given the entire package weighed about 170 lbs.

WEAK Exchanger or heat exchanger case
HEAT EXCHANGER FROZE THEN CRACKED WITH WINTER TEMPERATURES---YOU'D THINK THEY USE POLYCARB OR STRONGER PLASTIC TO MAKE HEAT EXCHANGER. $700+ PART.
