The King's Equal (Trophy Chapter Books (Paperback))

This little book is a great introduction to chapter books for young readers. The text is larger and while it has some challenging words it is not overwhelming. It is a lovely story about friendship and good values. My six year old read a chapter every day for a week and loved the story. It has not only improved her reading fluency but also her enjoyment of reading. I think this is the first time she has truly read to herself for pleasure. A big hit and a great improvement over those boring school readers.

I love this as a classroom read aloud during medieval studies week. I lost my copy I was so glad to get a new one quickly. The book was a hit again this year as expected. For the shelf, Quality writing and high interest but at a lower reading level with vocabulary support.

I read this to my two boys in one sitting because they wanted to find out what was going to happen. I enjoyed the story myself and found it to teach a valuable lesson.

This book was easy to read because of the large font and easy vocabulary . Children “judged the book” by that and thought it would be a fast read and under their abilities. Therefore, they missed many of the details and concepts they should have seen. It is more like a fable with a moral which the children missed before adults called their attention to the facts of the story.

I purchased this book after one of my students shared her copy with me. I didn't use it this year, but I hope to use it as a mentor text next school year. It's a great book!

The land of make-believe for young children must be grounded in the universal morality to which we cling for meaning as adults. This story engages readers in the paths to humility and repentence found by a young prince who becames enthralled by the beauty of Princess Rosamund. She exhibits character beyond his own, though she has the wealth of a peasant's daughter. His pursuit of this princess leads him out of his own selfishness and into true service to his people.

Great book for young children. Emphasize a lot on inner character. We as parents, would like our children to believe that good luck are more than just a pure luck sometimes, it is the result of keeping your moral and kindness under any circumstances. And the reason to keep positive lies in our conscious, not in wishing something good will follow.

This was one of my favorite books as a child and I was very happy to find it on this website. The artistry is beautiful, the story is engaging and the message is accessible to children of all ages (including those of the adult variety).

I think the story would have been a lot better with less magic interference and more of the characters changing naturally. I felt let down.The book could have been in better condition.

I was expecting the version with all the colorful pictures.
