My wife has an HP Envy Photo 7858. I bought this on 4/21/23 and just used it tonight on 11/5/23. At first I thought I ordered one with the little holder where you suck some ink out after you fill it. Tonight when I realized it wasn’t that way I was a little concerned it would be messy.FAR FROM IT!!! TRY AND TEFILL BEFORE THE INK DEPLETED MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED AS IT FROM WHAT I HEARD WILL NOT DISPLAY AFTER YOU REFILL. This ink was perfect. No mess. Even though cartridge registered depleted it still showed ink in it after my refill. Perhaps because it was the original cartridge. Who knows?I watched a video on a channel which said how to refill black cartridge and here it is without the video.1. Take label off, place it aside where you can retrieve and put it back on the cartridge after you fill the cartridge. Put in syringe, with a needle on it, a total of 10 ml of ink.2. Slant the needle with the ink you are putting in, towards the back part away from the front which is deeper and has the copper connections. Only go about half way and do not hit the bottom of the cartridge.3. Do that so you do not perforate the bottom membrane and ruin the cartridge as stated from videos I saw.4. Push the ink in very slowly so it does not bubble up and cause a mess. Which also allows the material to absorb the ink.5. Put the label back on top of the cartridge so no ink comes out.6. Only use 10 ml of black ink. 5 ml for each of the colors in the color cartridge. Watch video on how to fill them. It is the same but be safe.7. Using 10ml prevents an overflow which from what the videos said will essentially make a mess and make you wish you had not done it! I warned you.8. Let it sit for 10 minutes sitting upright with the label on top as you look down. I assume this is to allow the ink to fill the absorption material inside. (Now, if you had that holder you would not need to wait the ten minutes.). THANK GOODNESS IT WAS NO BIG DEAL!!!!9. After the ten minutes raise and push down three or four times on a sheet of paper. (I folded a sheet two times so no bleed through.). It will show a single line of black. Doing three or four times is just a little quality control to appease my mind. That is important as I only have 2 brain cells and one is damaged.10. Insert the cartridge in the printer and print a test page. Now mine was just as if it was a brand new cartridge installed with no issues. NOW, if you do the above and it does not work then that is a bummer but I would suggest the following happened.A). You perforated the bottom seal.B). You pushed too fast and the ink got messy.C). You did not wait the ten minutes with the cartridge in the position I outlined.D) You did not push down on a folded piece of paper 3 or 4 times to see if ink is there.E. Your cartridege may be defective.F. Finally bad things just happen to good people and I would just say Try again or don’t.THE INK WAS BLACK AND PERFECT, So who would think someone could write a book about it? I hope I did inform you correctly and made you smile a little.

Beats buying an expensive cartridge that goes by rapidly. I fill all colors with black no need to print in color
