I purchased this set a few months back put only opened it today, the pillow cases do not match. One is the top pattern of the duvet the other the bott

My duvet set was perfect, no different pillowcases exactly same as what the pillowcases are. There may be a few bits of flowers which are different but apart from that was okay. Nice to wash you have cool iron

Will the double size fit an American Queen?

No an American Queen is bigger,you’d need a Queen or King size.You can Google American/British bed and sheet sizes.
