I was looking around my kitchen today and realized that besides an old stained toaster oven and an antique wine opener this is the longest lasting table-top appliance we own. I don’t really write Amazon reviews but after 6 years of practically daily use I have to say this hard plastic-encased thing has held up. In a sharp turn from my initial impression that this was designed for form over function, I endorse this little kettle.

I ordered the blue one.SMEG have made too many compromises in order to make a kettle that looks aesthetically pleasing.A. The color and the shine don't look anywhere as good as they do on Amazon or on Smeg's websiteB. As the base of the kettle and the electric base are not round, the kettle needs to be placed right for the right aesthetics, which is "new"C. The outer surface is actually plastic, which may explain the dullness of the real product as opposed to the picturesD. Inside of the lid is plastic, which itself is a poor choice of material as it will drip water into the kettle.E. When you open the lid, a few drops of water will ALWAYS roll down from the back of the hinge onto the kettle. This is the worst design flaw that even a $10 kettle won't haveF. The nice short musical note it plays at start and stop is not always consistent and sometimes it just does not do it. I have confirmed this dozens of times that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.G. They have not realized a simple fact that everything that gets carried around a bit must have an inherent "balance". This kettle does not have that - it feels heavy and wobbly in the hand due to its geometry.H. The chrome finish handle is plastic, but more importantly, it’s plasticky - with the mould line clearly visible at the center in the top where it attaches to the kettle.I. The handle is creaky and (perhaps) due to the distance between the handle and the center of gravity of the kettle, the wobbling creaks every time you lift it up, as long as it has more than two cups of water.J. At the highest allowed water level, the plastic parts of the kettle are submerged in boiling water, which beats the purpose of buying a steel kettle.It is possible to marry function with aesthetics but that is a complicated exercise, even for a product as simple as a kettle. SMEG have failed that with this product. It is as if someone designed a kettle on a computer and SMEG put it into production without anyone really ever "living" with the product for even a day.Overall, this makes me downgrade the brand SMEG to one that focuses on looks and are ready to make any quality and functional compromises as long as the product looks good. If you are considering this brand, you could literally buy anything else - you won't go wrong, and you would have saved loads of money.This is the last SMEG product for me.

Love it! Heats up fast and keeps it hot. Temperature selection is awesome. Expensive but great product.

I don't usually write long reviews or even to write reviews, but because of the seller's excellent service, I am willing to take the extra miles to write this.This is the first expensive kettle I ever bought. I first fell in love with the designs and fancy usage, including adjustable water temperature for your purposes and keep your water warm, not forgetting it boils my water so fast. I got my first piece and noticed that one of the LED light wasn't working. So I contacted the seller directly and my emails were all replied super promptly. I contacted the seller directly as this is not fulfilled by Amazon itself and the exchange isn't immediate. HOWEVER!!! The customer service, whose name is Carlos, patiently listened to my worries for not having a kettle for more than a week and he allowed me to get the replacement, without having to receive my defect kettle first. He swiftly shipped my new kettle the moment I informed him that I already made the return of the defected piece and I don't have to wait for almost 2 weeks without having a kettle. Their customer service really go beyond expectations and they really took the extra miles to ensure their customers are happy & satisfied. It's been like 2 months or so, I have been using the kettle and I am so happy with it. With the contrasting color that makes my dull pantry looks so bright and boiling water faster than usual, there is nothing I can complain about. SUPERB!!! Thank you for the nice experience!!!
