as good today as it was 30years ago
A much recommended book for children of all ages. We read them when we were children and now my 6 year old is enjoying them immensely.

THE FAMOUS FIVE....
THE FAMOUS FIVETHE BEST FOR A FIRST READ!Enid’s Famous Five books featuring Julian, Dick, George and Anne and Timmy the dog, were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid. The BBC, many public libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having quite a lot of difficulty obtaining the original books as so many places would not stock them. The stories are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness. When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the letter on the back cover from Enid in some of the editions, and also the physical appearance of the book which I treasured as a youngster with the way the books were produced then which made them somehow much easier to read. It’s a delight to read the stories again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old).Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my own reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.

Great adventure!
This serie is about four teenagers and a dog who encounter adventures everywhere they go. It is the ultimate teen fantasy because these guys are on their own under the permission of their parents, traveling through England on their summer vacations, staying in cool places (such as castles, mansions, farms, open country, deserted islands, etc.) while defeating bandits and thiefs. The personalities of each character are very defined and the guest characters are equally awesome. It is a great light reading and an encouraging book to make children and teenagers read.

At last!
At last an academic tome which deals uncompromisingly with major sociological and socio-literary issues, and yet written in a language which is accessible to the interested lay reader. Too often professors sit in their ivory towers, unaware of the needs of a wider reading audience, but Dr Blyton manages to find a lucid and coherent style by which she entertains, but also informs and challenges. I had to re-think many cherished and long-held intellectual positions, but the reward for buying into Dr Blyton's refreshingly unpretentious world-view, is a novelty of persepective lacking from most "literary" thinkers/writers of our day.

Unintentionally hilarious
I loved the Famous Five as a child and found them very funny as I got a bit older. Marvel at how much the kids can eat and be infuriated by George being "as good as a boy" and Anne always playing the soft little housewife. Despite this, the books are a lot of fun and I used to pray that God would send me back to be one of the Famous Five after I died!
