Can they be kept in cold water tanks as pets?

I actually bought 'daphnia' to start a culture to feed my fish. I placed them in tubs by my kitchen window with various aquatic plants; snails and plenty of algae. where they are reproducing. As pets, they only live for a day or so, and require a good supply of algae and a regular tiny squirt of a weak yeast solution. (See youtube videos for culturing daphnia)

We had a few die within a couple of hours of putting them in the tank,they took a week to arrive
