Is it true that I need to use battery to 2% before charging it for the first time?

The main reason for asking such a task is to calibrate the computer to the battery, so while it is not required, it may be a good idea, yes, that first time.

My original 42t4677 battery is 10.8v, 4.75ah. this replacement has higher output. will this one be okay for my thinkpad t400?

Higher output usually just means more power cells in the battery. Line up the connection to compare. If it fits it should work.

I got a Lenovo T61 which has a dead battery. Will this work for my computer?

It looks like it will if you have one of these models, check on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop: "ThinkPad T61 MT MT 1959, 6377, 6378, 6379, 6480, 6481, 7658, 7659, 7660, 7661, 7662, 7663, 7664, and 7665". Based on Lenovo's hardware manual, found here: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/42x3547_05.pdf. The manual lists FRU "42T4530" as a compatible part, and this ad posting references compatibility with "42T4530". It worked on mine, which is model 7663, but there are other models of T61 which are not compatible with this battery.
