What do i need to do/buy to fully use the m2. ssd slots capabilities?

You need to purchase an m.2 SSD (NVMe, not SATA). The installation is tool-less - no additional hardware is required. You then need to use the in-built Storage Manager software to enable the SSD Cache feature. Easiest way to locate this is to open Control Panel and search for SSD in the top left. You only NEED one m.2 drive if you intend to use a read-only cache, though you can use two and set up in RAID 0/1. The reason for this is that if there is a loss of power or similar failure, your data is still stored on your main data drives. If you intend to use a read & write cache, you MUST have two m.2 drives as Synology DSM will insist they are set up in RAID 1. This is to protect from data loss should one of the drives fail whilst any data in the write cache is still mid-write to your main data drives. If you intend to use this second type of cache, read and write, consider purchasing a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) which can help to protect you against sudden loss of power to the drive as a result of a power cut. Can i use one 1x8gb ddr memory instead of using 2 x4gb memory (does it support 1 8gb module instead of 2x4gb module)

4Gb are onboard and you could not change it. There is a sodimm slot to increase the onboard memory, and officially it is supported a 4Gb stick, but I have a 8Gb reused from a laptop and people have put a 16Gb one. But check the brand / speed just in case.

Can you set this up. Bay 1 & 2 as a movie raid then 3 & 4 as a photo raid

You can but if your going to use shr1 or raid 1 you would be better off creating a pool with all drives in raid 5 or shr1. You will get more storage space and you just create a share for movies and 1 for pictures. You can set a storage limit per share folder of you want
