Smart Color Night Light

Nice gadget for my smart home, managed to add it to HomeKit and Tuya Smart no issues, the Motion sensor works great in the bathroom, as any Motion lamp you have to check for false positive triggers like curtains and moving objects when installing, adding different brightness and color automations depending on LUX and Occupancy is great, the light color is pastel-like.

As a HomeKit user since pretty much the very beginning, I saw this neat accessory and I had to pick it up; 2 sensors and an RGB night light all in one for the price is a great deal. I did have some setup hassle, but I knew how to handle it. Please read carefully and I will tell you exactly how I got mine working! 1. When I opened the box, my home was still using the old HomeKit architecture, as I have an intel iMac that I didn’t want to update (for performance reasons). As it turns out, YOU NEED to be running the new home architecture. If you don’t, the device will successfully add to your home, but it will immediately become unresponsive. I decided to upgrade my home, I will use my other devices to control my home now… 2. The device ships with factory firmware. There is much better updated firmware. To install it, you need the 3R-Installer app by the manufacturer. You first need to add the device to that app BEFORE adding it to your Apple home. When you add it, you should see the firmware update. Say “Yes” to update the device. Once the firmware is updated, you need to remove it from the app, then reset the device by using a paperclip and inserting it into the hole on the side of the device while it is plugged in. THEN you can add it to your Apple Home with the new home architecture and it will work very smoothly. I found that this device took a little longer than my other ones to come back online, but it does eventually come back online. No need to reset the device with a paper clip for this. Overall, this IS in fact a good product, it does work. But it is a bit of a hassle setting it up. I hope this is helpful!

I purchased a two pack of these nights lights and am happy with their performance and features. With matter being such a new protocol, I had some issues using these in Apple home. I reached out to 3rd reality via email and here in the Amazon app. They were very responsive and helped me trouble shoot over the course of the week. Turns out, nothing was wrong with the product and it was an issue with my Apple home setup. I fixed this and the night lights started working. The one issue I have is the “occupancy” sensor. Due to this being an occupancy sensor, it does not trigger as quickly as a motion sensor would. Because of this there is a bit of a delay in triggering automations. Besides that, it works as intended. Overall, I’d give the product a 4/5 and customer service a 5/5

I purchased two of these devices to be used as status lights. They constantly disconnect and need to be unplugged and powered back to reconnect. I have no issues with wifi or any other devices in my house. As typical practice, support recommends resetting the devices and using an IOT network which I have done. NOTHING HAS WORKED and its passed the return date. This device either has faulty hardware or half baked firmware...buyer beware.

When I bought this, I thought it was defective. I WAS WRONG! The only problem was me. I was trying to integrate this into Home Assistant. I was logged into HA as a regular user, not as an Admin. After correcting for my dumb, I got this operational. I have been fine tuning it's operation under HA for a little while. Remember, this is NOT a plug and play device. If you plug it in, it will NOT automatically turn on the light at night, at least under HA. You must use it's Motion detection, and LUX level, if you want, to the tell the light when to turn on or off. After getting it to work the way I wanted, I have also used it to also turn on a secondary light in the area, a bedroom, for more complete lighting. If you use this in a small to medium room, i.e. a bathroom, this light is plenty bright enough. I have never been a fan of turning on bright lights at night just to walk around. I just want enough light to avoid objects and anything a pet might move/leave for me. If you are automating your house, this Night Light is great!

I purchased two ThirdReality Smart Color Night Lights to replace a couple ThirdReality Wireless Motion Sensors we use to turn on and off lights in our stairways. The primary failing of those devices was that in a high traffic location, the sheer volume of events caused the device to burn through batteries at a very high rate. We had 8 of the wireless, battery powered device in use across closets, stairways, and bathrooms. In low traffic locations (closets and bathrooms) the batteries would last 5 to 6 months. At the top and bottom of stairways they barely last two months. Because of the battery issue with the wireless devices, we purchased two of the Smart Night Light devices simply because they were plug-in. They have been in use for 6 weeks now. The drawback here though, is that for our specific use case, we did not have wall outlets in the places that would truly give us the degree of control we wanted. Either there was no outlet, or the outlet that was available gave the device a "view" into an adjacent room, and hence activity in that room would cause the stair lights to go on and off (and hence was a bit of a visual distractor.) Performance of the devices though has been rock-solid. The motion sensing functionality works very well, there seems to be no significant delay between one motion event and when the device is capable of detecting a subsequent motion event. The illumination sensor is much more difficult to evaluate, because it is hard to know what illumination value to select for a particular automation task unless you wait around until that time of the day to get a reading off the device. If the primary use case for the Illumination Sensor is to determine when to turn on and off the night light, and you really don't care if that varies day to day by as much as 30 to 40 minutes, then it is useful. For myself, I prefer to use a time-based trigger or motion sensing trigger for night lights. Custom colors for the night light was also pretty cool. The color saturation though is a little tepid though. All the colors feel a little washed out. What is really cool about the colors is that I could assign any event on any Alexa enabled sensor to trigger the Night Light to turn on, and I could control (via Alexa) the specific color value and duration. This has great value in a range of SECURITY or CONVENIENCE applications. I have my night lights set up so that when someone passes by my Ring solar powered outdoor Steplight, the Smart Night Light flashes on and off a specific color. This could be a great functionality if you want to have the sound on your Ring Doorbell turned off during a baby's nap-time, but want to know when the UPS guy is coming up the walk with a package to deliver. Finally, aesthetics. Ugly. It's basically a square box hanging outside of a wall outlet. The size makes it really stand out and be an eye sore. For our 2nd floor stairs, we have an outlet right at the top of the stairs. So every time you go up, it's right there at eye level for several steps. And the sheer size of the top of the device means that there's a nice big area for dust to collect. So, wrap-up time. - It solves the problem of high traffic use cases burning through batteries. - It's flexible enough to support alternate uses such as a silent notification when other 3rd party sensors trigger it. - The motion sensing works great, but only if you have a wall outlet where you need motion to be sensed. - Aesthetically, drop-kick it. Officially - it is "Uh-hug-ly". I want to hug it because of performance and flexibility. But I will get rid of it the second I see something with better aesthetics or better battery performance. Now if Thirdwave would only make a diferent back for their Wireless Motion sensors so four batteries could be inserted, and perhaps do a little energy optimization, then that would be my perfect device.

I originally ordered this to test out the concept with the intention of ordering a bunch to use as night lights, motion sensors to trigger various automations, and as notification indicator lamps that would trigger when something was happening in my Home Assistant instance, such as when the garage door is open, the alarm is arming/armed/disarmed, when the doorbell rings, etc. Unfortunately, I was unable to get these to stay online for more than a few hours without having to hard-reset and entirely set up factory fresh. I believe it's due to an issue with our XFinity router and the requirement for the 2.4GHZ network, but it made the devices entirely unusable. Our internet and router are free through our condo, so there is no cost savings associated with upgrading the equipment, so there was no path forward with this unfortunately. THAT BEING SAID - I returned this and ordered the Zigbee version instead. They are SPECTACULAR for the use cases I mentioned before. I have customized the nightlights to have a smooth transitions, light heartbeat color pulsing for notifications, WITB-based room occupancy lighting automations, and a bunch more things that these made possible. SO. The verdict is that these are, in concept, fantastic, and what will make or break them for you is whether you are able to run a special separate 2.4Ghz network of wifi just for your smart home. If you can't (e.g. you have Xfinity), then you're better off with the Zigbee version.

These nightlights are great. They're Matter enabled, plug-in and use Wifi. If everything in your smart home could be that easy. I'm controlling mine with Home Assistant, though they also offer a phone app if you're not into HA. Super easy to get them on my network and into larger automations. I have them in my downstairs and upstairs hallways with an automation tied to motion, when the ambient light is low, turning on all of the nightlights until 30 seconds after the motion stops. Excellent at night. It's enough light to get around without being obnoxious to other sleepers. I also put one in the bathroom above the sink as a motion nightlight that also triggers the hot water recirculation pump for two minutes. They've been rock solid so far. Since there are no batteries, they should last forever. Forever...
