Sewing Edges and Corners: Decorative Techniques for Your Home and Wardrobe (An Embellishment Idea Book Series)

Nice book but..
I thought this book would be a good reference book for my projects. I am not an expert sewing items, I just know a little bit and I usually make a lot of mistakes but I think that's the best way to learn. Don't get me wrong, this is a really nice book about edges, specially when you are doing cushions but there is only 1 picture per page and the rest of the page is just instructions on how to do the edge you want.I am a very visual person and I like to see pictures for almost every step so I can understand well what I am doing. If you don't have some experience in sewing, do not buy this book, you really need to have some experience or you will be lost. The book is small and each page is only half the size of a regular letter size sheet so as you can imagine, the instructions are not too detailed I think. It is a good reference book and a good addition to your sewing library.

Minimal Instructions
Each page addresses one type of embellishment. Sometimes there is a sewing tip at the bottom of a page. The instructions (confusingly written) on each page consist of a four to five step sequence with one small photograph to illustrate what the finished product should look like. Very disappointed.

Fabulous! Ya, a reference I can use!
Okay, I'm a novice sewer. I have lots of novice/fun books from Amy Butler and others on how to make cute projects such as fabric baskets, pajamas and pillows. Enter my frustration. Most "beginner" books will tell you to finish a seam by "basting" or "cut into the allowance". It all seems like a foriegn language. If that be the case, Linda's book here is the translation for how to actually finish your project by making those edges and corners look professional. Between this book and Sewing 101 (which I also highly recommend), I was able to accomplish a task my husband considered impossible. I am looking at a set of beautiful designer-fabric pillows, made by me (yes me, a young 30 something)!! Can't wait to move on to some of those cute projects in other eh-hem books. Thanks, Linda for writing a clearly illustrated text with instructions in clear language!

great reference book
I bought this book as a replacement for a damaged book I owned so obviously, I knew I would love it and needed to replace it. This book is not only for sewing edges and corners, it's title, but it gives examples of hems, cording, bindings in general, rickrack, exposed serged edges, binding knits, twisted yarn, novelty edges, etc. Although an owner of any machine would benefit from this book, Bernina owners (as I am) are doubly benefitted because it shows the uses of the various feet to make these applications easier. I am a believer that using the right foot can make a sewing project much easier and more professional looking. The illustrations explain in full detail how to do the projects.

Great photos of finished corners
Very nicely photographed and a number of creative approaches. There are directions for each technique- and reading through them found them to be a bit high level - I prefer more detail - or used to how-to YouTube videos that offer a visual - like those found on Sailrite.com

Sewing Edges & Corners
I enjoy making cushions and pillows for my home and was interested in this book after previewing some of the pages at Amazon.com. I felt it could be very helpful in creating different looks with the edges shown. The directions are easy to understand and follow. The price of this book is very reasonable for the content and I did receive the book in the time frame promised.

Very up-scale products..
I love this book... However, I need a sewing class to go with the book.. If I can make the the same quality as this book it will well worth the book and class.

Four Stars
Book in good condition and appears to have the information on making cushion covers I was searching to find.

4 year sewer
Ok for a person with little experience. Well illustrated but could do with more step by step photos for some items. Easy to use but limited contents

An excellent, well conceived
An excellent, well conceived, spiral-bound book. Explanations are clear and abundantly illustrated with detailed photographs. A treat for all sewers, all levels and whether you are sewing clothing or soft furnishings.

soddisfatta
Il libro mi sembra ben fatto, con fotografie un po' piccole ma abbastanza chiare. E' specifico per le rifiniture di angoli, orli, bordi. Posso ritenermi soddisfatta dell'acquisto.
