Long time owner- couldn't be happier
I don't like posting reviews until I've used/owned the product awhile. I purchased these 2 & 1/2 years ago for a boundary waters trip and used many, many times since. I've been very happy each & every time I've used them and they remain 100% waterproof. In fact, I wanted an 'over the calf' pair of waterproof socks to have too, and looked first at this same brand/company to see if they had 'me (they do & I purchased). Things to know: when you first step in deep water your feet will "feel" like they're getting wet, they aren't. If you take the sock off & feel your feet, they'll be completely dry. This is a think sock, its like having 2-3 wool socks on your foot in thickness, so you may need 1 size larger boot or shoe size (I do if I wear shoes, but not boots). I launder just like regular socks...but I don't put in dryer as my own personal preference....not sure what the manufacturer suggests, but I just like to be safe & feel better flipping them inside out and hanging them up...doesn't take long. If it's really hot, or if your feet sweat a lot, be aware that will stay in the sock. My own experience is that they do a good job wicking minor perspiration, but not much beyond that. And also, yes of course if water gets above sock, you'll have a boot full of water which is a no brainer/should be expected. This happened a few times to me (thus why buying a knee high pair), but at least the water warms to body temp quickly so it's not bad. And then I just flip inside out, hang on the line a few hrs or overnight & they're nice and dry, ready to go again.Overall: I am very, very pleased with my purchase - enough to make sure to buy from them again for an upgraded version (for me). This lower pair will still be my go to hiking sock w/no need for waterproof boots, plus higher waterproofing than most boots. The taller pair will be better suited for Boundary Waters (getting in out of canoe several times a day/wading deeper into lakes/etc) in my opinion.

Gimmiiick.
The reviews you see here are likely not long-term users. These socks wear out quickly and the waterproof function is negligible because you can feel the water on the outside of the sock's membrane and any sweat from your feet gets trapped inside making your feet clammy by end of the day either way. These are certainly not for the 8 hour, 5 day a week worker in especially wet conditions. After trying two pairs of these "waterproof" socks while being especially careful not to damage the membrane (as it's seemingly quite delicate) and only making it till about noon without cold, soggy feet (even in my brand-new, unwashed pair) ; I'll just be buying "old-fashioned" wool socks from now on.

Amazing. Waterproof and breathable
Amazing. Waterproof and breathable. Comfy, soft wool terrycloth-type lining. The warmest socks I've ever worn. When I put them on, within a minute it felt like I was using one of those stick-on foot-warmer packets. I wore them with only sneakers on icy and wet hikes, with a pair of thin wool liner socks, and my feel stayed warm and dry. I wore them with and without liners for 4 days straight and they didn't smell.

I'm a fan
I'm really happy with these socks so far. I used them with my closed toe Merrel sandals on my bike ride across country and they held up well keeping my feet warm and dry in mid to high 30's and above temperatures. I probably wouldn't use them in any lower temperatures unless you're wearing boots or have another pair of socks on underneath for added warmth.I'm not as pleased with the price which my reason for the 4 star rating... if they were priced in the high $20 or low $30 range, I'd be very satisfied. On a side note, I was not impressed with their ultralight counterpart which didn't hold up and I ended up throwing away... along with the 20-some dollars I paid for them.

Keep the rain out
These socks work great, especially when combined with other waterproof gear. The exterior fabric is reminiscent of neoprene and the lining is very soft. They stay up great, too. A tip for sizing: I believe that the size chart is in men's shoe sizes. I wear a size 10 women's and the mediums fit perfectly.

These are awesome. I previously had the ones with the blue trim, the coolvent ones. Compared to those, these are definitely warmer. I row with my waterproof socks year-round, and these have been great as the weather gets colder. When the dock sinks below the water as it likes to do, my feet stay totally dry. I've also used these for camping: My boots got wet but I just slipped these on and was comfortable. Two things to note: Try to avoid walking on these because you will eventually wear out the bottoms. Duh, I guess, but it's something I wish had occurred to me before I walked all over the dock with my last pair constantly for a couple of years. Also, when you wash them, turn them inside out to dry, or the water will just stay inside forever.

These socks are great! I am mostly barefoot in the summer
These socks are great! I am mostly barefoot in the summer, sandals if necessary. In the winter, unless I'm skiing, snowshoeing, or some other activity that requires specialized footware, I'm probably wearing sandals. In the past I wore thick insulating socks, and frequently my feet ended up damp. If I was driving somewhere I would bring a pair of muck boots, "just in case".These socks are perfect for me. They keep my feet dry, even when snow balls up between my toes and sandals. They're also very comfortable, and I purchased several styles and thicknesses. They also shed off mud/sand/etc. very well, and the antimicrobial treatment works great.NB (!!): They ARE waterproof and windproof, so if you wear them in conditions that cause your feet to sweat a lot then, well, think about it...
