Great product! I recommend it to all gardners that start their own seeds.
Really liked this tray system. I have bought other brand trays in the past, but Planter's Pride was less expensive and I do not buy the plugs to start my seeds, I use potting mix (not potting soil - there is a great difference!) in the trays. As far as the lids not fitting on the tray, that is not very important as your seeds will need some ventilation to clear out the moisture, otherwise you will get a mold buildup inside. I am going to order another 10- 12 kits next year and sell off the extra plants to pay for my expenses! I bought a small walk-in greenhouse with 6 shelves and plan to put in another 3 or 4 shelves so I can start over 18 trays of seeds early in the season and then start the summer plants (Fall veggies) later in July/ August. I'll buy from them again!! What the heck you can start seeds in any plastic tray 2 - 3 inches deep and use potting mix. just put some plastic wrap over the tray after you put in some popsicle sticks in to keep the wrap off of the plants and you have a seed starting kit! So quit complaining and use you head folks!

Worked well for simple setup
These worked really well for us. The only drawback was that when I went to transplant the seedlings to bigger pots (or to raised beds), it was tough to get them out of the cells. I would have preferred if I could have taken the cells out in smaller batches (like when you buy started plants at the store) so that I could handle them more easily. Instead, I ended up tearing up the roots and tender stalks of the plants more than I should have.Otherwise, this is a very economical kit that was perfect for our basement greenhouse area. Loved it.I don't consider this to be resuable -- and I did tear it a bit when trying to get the plants out. For us, it was a single-use system.

Very easy to use and worked as advertised
I thought I'd try planting some seeds this year and this product fit the bill. I used planting mix and very easily planted seeds, watered and covered it. The only thing I would caution is that I planted several different types of plants that grow at different rates. If I did this again, I'd probably reserve each planter kit for a single type of plant. Although what is also nice is that each little compartment of 9 easily comes out if something outgrows the lid. I'm also kind of new at doing this so also want to caution that you need to add water pretty regularly. Once I put it outside in the sun, some of them dried out sooner than I expected. But they do stay moist longer when the lid is on. All and all, a very good product.

Clear tops aren't dependable.
I ordered several of these starters. There was a difference in the clear plastic tops that are supposed to cover the plants. The tops that said "Planters Pride" on the tops worked great, the others said "Jiffy" and would did not cover well at all. I'm not sure if they have gotten tops from another company or were the last of a bad bunch. I won't try them again.

Does its job but....
Arrived on time and packaged well, this item worked just fine to start my seeds .The only reason I didnt give a five star rating is that its a little " flimsier" than I expected, VERY light weight compared to the top brands. All in all, an affordable alternative for seed starting just make sure its well supported.

I much prefer the super spouter double or quad thick trays
Does the job, but...the tray is not drilled for drainage.the insert is very flimsy.the clear dome is industry standard thickness, in other words not even strong enough to shed water off the top without buckling.I much prefer the super spouter double or quad thick trays, with a 7" super sprouter dome, much more durable.

Just a plastic container - not really a "starter kit"
This is a "fine product" - but by no means superior. There is literally no reason to buy this version over any other one. There are other varieties out there that come with actually "starters" in the cells to aid plant growth and this one doesn't do that. I had looked at so many different options that I just assumed this one did based on the product name. As a result I was a little disappointed when it arrived.

Great for the price. Don't expect professional quality though.
I have ordered two of these with great results. Used them with a heat mat and had excellent germination of seeds. As others have noted, the plastic is not super sturdy or durable so don't expect these to stand up to years of wear and tear or take a beating, however, it'll do the job for now. The plastic lid does not "snap" into place like some have grumbled about, however, it does the job adequately by resting in place on the lip of the bottom tray.

Not worth the money!!
Not worth the money!!! Plastic cover wouldn’t stay snapped on and kept blowing off. I could have kept a plastic food container from the bakery and done the job!

not as sturdy as I thought
the plastic is not very sturdy. One of the corners was already chipped when I received it making it a very sharp edge.

Its a little flimsy (don't put water in and try to move it at all) but it works great for my purposes of starting tomatoes and basil
