Stanley Kubrick - The Masterpiece Collection

Kubrick finally got a collection that he truly deserves. Its presented beautifully in a premium packaging containing 8 of the director's masterpieces. It also contains a 78 page hardcover book including never before seen behind the scenes pictures and Kubrick Remembered, a new documentary about the life of the director from the perspective of the people who knew him and worked with him closely. Also to note the version of the 2001 : A space odyssey is the current blu-ray version not the newly remastered BFI version. Overall a must have for Kubrick lovers :))

For any fan of Stanley Kubrick who doesn't mind a collection of disc's nicely contained in a groovy looking outer package. Well, this is certainly the product for you. The visual quality of the content is excellent, with the addition of a hardback book with sketches/ pre production plans from film sets.

All films beautifully restored and presented at a very reasonable price. What more could you want?

Love product box Kubrick fan must have!

Apart from the shorter European edit of The Shining and EU labeled discs, this set is the same as the one sold in the USA. As other reviewers have noted we don't get the full negative image (academy ratio) for some movies. These have been cropped to 16:9 for modern day wide screen TVs and as I was also a cinema projectionist in a past life, they would've been screened the same way. It's what most cinemas did after the adoption of widescreen/CinemaScope at theatres. With that caveat out of the way this Blu-ray box set is great value if you don't already own any of the films in that format. As an added bonus there are two extras discs devoted to special features about Stanley. I am most pleased with my purchase but really would've liked the long version of The Shining. Guess I'll be buying that one as a stand alone from America.

One disc damaged, not satisfied

Todo excelente, envío rapidísimo y producto impecable. Las películas tienen gran calidad y hay material para ver para rato. Sin ninguna objeción.

Ce coffret est tout simplement génial : il fournit dans un seul objet l'ensemble des films de Kubrick (à l'exception notable de Fear and Desire, mis au piloris par son auteur lui-même : on le trouve néanmoins facilement) ainsi qu'un très beau livre (en anglais) composé de très nombreuses images (plans) des 12 oeuvres et d'annexes rares (interviews du réalisateur, informations précises sur le contexte d'écriture et de réalisation, etc.). On souhaiterait tellement que de tels coffrets existent pour d'autres génies du 7e art : Ozu, Mizoguchi, Kazan, Tarantino, Truffaut... Vraiment, un produit sur lequel se précipiter !

Rispetto alla nota edizione "Visionary Filmmaker Collection" si segnala la mancanza di "Spartacus". Dal canto suo, l'attuale "Masterpiece Collection" contiene un blu-ray di bonus in più, che include il documentario inedito "Kubrick Remembered" e anche "Once upon a time ... A Clockwork Orange" e "Stanley Kubrick in focus". Dimensioni del box: (30 x 20,2 x 5) cm, materiale cartonato rigido con apertura/chiusura magnetica sul lato corto. La confezione interna contiene: una scheda dal titolo "Searching for Stanley Kubrick", in lingua inglese, in pratica una sintesi del "Making the Kubrick Remembered Documentary"; una splendida riproduzione a colori su cartoncino ruvido (28 x 19) cm di un ritratto di Kubrick del 1972, dal titolo "Stanley", dipinto dalla moglie Christianne; un libro fotografico da collezione di 78 pagine (28 x 19) cm, con immagini d'archivio e altro materiale inedito; un cofanetto cartonato (19 x 14 x 3) cm contenente n. 10 dischi blu-ray (ovvero 8 film e 2 dischi di bonus; la "Visionary Filmmaker Collection" contiene 9 film - perché include Spartacus - e 1 disco di bonus). Le serigrafie dei dischi blu-ray sono identiche a quelle dell'edizione "Visionary" ( e identici pure i master HD, per qualità d'immagine). In conclusione: l'attuale edizione Masterpiece si propone con una veste splendida ed estremamente curata, rispetto a quella - più piccola e commerciale - dell' edizione Visionary. Per un appassionato, dunque, un ghiotto oggetto da collezione; per chi già possiede l'edizione "Visionary" è , in buona parte, una replica.

Comes with a small painting of the genius and a little book with 10 discs and 8 films. Beside a small tear on the right side of box I abousltey love this thing. I only saw 2001: A Space Odyssey before and decided to buy a bunch of his movies and it was tottally worth it!. If you love films at all you should buy this boxset. All of the movies in here are fantastic. This is a must have if you enjoy at least 2 movies from Stanley Kubrick.
