Review: Great for kids who struggle with math - My son has always struggled with math and after scoring "Approaching grade level" in the standardized test, I got him this to help strengthen his understanding over the summer before he started 7th grade. I love that this explains the concepts and shows examples of what it is asking you to do in a clear and concise way. My son loved this so much that he asked me to get the 7th grade one so he could have something to support him during the school year too. If you have a kiddo who hates and struggles with math, this is a great support device and I've already ordered another one for his brother who starts 6th grade this year!

Repetition isn't a bad thing.
My child struggled with math. There could be many reasons such as personal interest, class atmosphere, or teaching/learning method. This book does not give you anything new to the school curriculum. And this, in my opinion, is better than online version of IXL. There are two main points that I take from this book. 1. Book edition minimizes distraction. I know too well how distracting doing anything online. With so much access to every entertainment, it is not hard to wonder off to land of social media or streaming services. This book helps your child to focus better, and that's something all modern-day parents should strive. 2. Repetition and execution. Math like many other things, needs practice. Understanding a concept/idea needs to be fortified with good execution. I like cooking. When I learn a recipe, I cook it once. I know the ingredients, and I know the steps. But I still don't know how to do it in any level of mastery. I've been cooking for Thanksgiving for the past 15 years. I don't even need a groceries list nor a recipe card for all the dishes. From brining of the turkey to the temperature; from frenching the mushroom to saute, all instructions and executions are second nature to me. Math is not different. Caution: You as a teacher/parent need to be diligent as well. Giving the assignment to checking the steps/answers, you will need to put in the work.

Great books but damaged on delivery.
I love these workbooks. They’re great for our children to keep up with practicing what they’ve learned and I love it’s not digital in our over stimulated by screens society. Their great delivery of this book, however, had damage, so that was a bummer. It is still usable, just not in great condition.

Highly Recommended
My girlfriend's son has been struggling with math for the past few years despite being a bright child. Part of the blame for this is due to the ineffective remote instruction he received during Covid. Another part of the blame is due to the ridiculous methods of problem-solving pushed by Common Core. The final fault lay with him not taking things seriously. After deciding to take matters into my own hands, I looked online for good review materials. I settled on "The Ultimate Math Workbook" series and ordered Grades 4-8 in anticipation of his enrollment in 8th Grade in August. I couldn't be happier with that decision. The problem-solving methods used are simple and straightforward with at least some effort devoted to helping the student develop an intuitive feel for the material. As of this writing, we have plowed through Grades 4-6 in 2 weeks in a Math Boot Camp style. In this way, he is seeing much more of the big picture than by studying only 1 hour per day. He's not thanking me yet, but next year in school, his math class will be like a review for him. Long story short, if your child is struggling with math, these workbooks are the tool you need to turn things around.
