So Natural Gourmet Red Szechuan Gourmet Pepper 30g in Glass Jar

I bought this after seeing it used on a Saturday cookery programme, I had no idea what it was or how it tasted, I was just interested.When I first opened it I couldn't believe the strong zingy lemon-lime smell, and the taste is an amazing citrus like flavour. It's probably not something you could add to everything, I actually put a few kernals/pods/buds (they're a flower head I believe) into my salt shaker to add a bit of interest when salting stuff.Top tip, put a bud on your tongue for a weird 9v battery effect!

Love this little jar of the most amazing tasty additions to my Szechuan cooking. I use about 20 at a time and grind them fresh for a great flavour/heat profile. Heat isn't really the right word, but you know what I mean. This makes your food taste authentic and different.

Upon opening I was disappoint with the lack of red colour of what I have had in the past. They were black. They also lacked the intense floral smell of others I have had. They are zingy and not a complete disappointment but I would be interested if other purchasers had the colour or smell issues.

A lot of the sichuan pepper you get in supermarkets is fake, perfumed and not at all "ma la". This one (while of course not as intense as if you had brought it from China yourself) tastes the way it should. Whoever was packing the product also made sure to keep the twigs etc to the minimum and to include the proper husks, without the little black seeds.

Excellent. Just need 3 and the food tastes yummy.

Purchased these as my husband loves to make his own Chinese dishes but be careful as you don’t need a lot before the lemony fairy up liquid and taste is too over powering.
