Fate : System Toolkit

I love this book. I strongly recommend this book for anybody who has Fate Core. It gives you a lot of options for an already flexible system. I have so many ideas for games now.My only complaint is my copy arrived with a significant scratch on the cover. But it certainly isn't a big enough deal for me to try and return it. It's gotten plenty of wear already from me carrying it around.

Fate Core (which is absolutely necessary for this product, introduced a refined RPG system that focuses on story above all else. Your characters are tough and are nearly-unkillable but the can be maimed to the point of uselessness and it might be time to make a new character while your old one retires to a background character or a source of quests for revenge due to their injuries. Fate allowed players and the GM to create worlds and scenarios together leading to a great overall understanding of the universe everyone was playing in and the broad and simple rules made it a snap to learn. The big rub was that SOME things NEEDED depth, how magic works, how cybernetic enhancements would change characters, and the negative aspect of using too much of these things with one character. While Fate Core touched on how to balance stuff like this, the Fate System Toolkit refines it and offers much easier source material to fine craft the universe you and your players game in. Not only a good GM tool, the System Toolkit is best shared with players to get a good idea on how to handle the game more fluidly.

I am a major fan of the Fate system but there were some things that were not addressed as well in the Fate Core Rulebook. The moment I got the package I started to look over the book. I love the way the authors write, it is easy to read and I didn't feel like they were lacking explanation anywhere. The System Toolkit introduces magic, which first came out in the Dresden Files' Fate System. They gave some ideas for powers and gave a couple aspects that could go along with each as well. They also elaborated on aspects a lot in this book, showing what some aspects could invoke.I think it is a great addition to the Core Rulebook and that a dedicated gamer should have a copy of it.

Has some helpful materials. Kind of a thin little phamplet more than an actual book. Picking up the PDFs would be way cheaper for printed resources this minor, BUT I'm not dissatisfied with it. I'm trying to develop a setting for friends and myself to game in, and the toolkit is helpful there.

Fate : System Toolkit is an add-on to the Fate Core System and Fate Accelerated Edition. It modifies the basic game modules, such as changing Aspects , Skills, Stunts, and customized tools, and It adds additional playable modules to the basic Fate games, such as Magic, Kung Fu, Cyberware, Gadgets and Gear, Wealth, Weapons & Armor, and many other additions and attachments. Most importantly, they don't just present you with a module or system that only works one way, take it or leave it. They also tell you how to tweak the provided systems and modules to make them a better fit for the kind of game YOU want to play. This is an indispensable add-on to your Fate games.

There's a rip in the first few pages, including the table of contents, and the ripped pages appear to be glued to the inside cover.I already know that I like this system. I backed the original Kickstarter, and thus have the pdfs. And my core book is fine. But it is truly a bummer to receive a physical copy like this.

This is one of my top 3 books in all of tabletops. It's a great inspiration for campaigns as well as offering a couple magic systems that fate desperately needs.For those new to fate this book is similar to a Dungeon Mastere guide in dungeons and dragon. It's not necessary to play, but it is a great read.
