Good Product - Excellent Customer Service!
I picked up this microscope for my 8 year old granddaughter in the hope of broadening her intellectual horizons... after all - girls are just as capable of STEM activities if they find them interesting. I put her mom and grandma in charge of this project and left them to figure it out - after all it is designed for ages 8 and up.Perhaps I shouldn't have done that. Grandma kept telling me that they couldn't get it to work... but I didn't want to intervene - I wanted them to figure it out. After replacing the batteries they got the lights to work - but by then the granddaughter apparently had disassembled the eyepieces. Now there was no hope of getting it to work - so they gave up and had to summon my help. While the instructions could be better - that didn't matter as I had to figure out how to get the eyepieces to be reassembled... and since they weren't supposed to be taken apart - there were no directions regarding putting them back together.I reached out to the seller - HSL - and asked if they could provide me a diagram that I could use to put the kit back together - and they went one step further and told me to initiate an exchange through Amazon and swap out the eyepieces. Wow. That was totally unexpected and really nice to help save the day for my granddaughter. A new unit arrived quickly - and I was able to have it working right away. :-)For those who order this unit - keep in mind that the eyepieces should NOT be disassembled. There is a 10x eyepiece; a 25x eyepiece; and a 2x extender. You'll use one eyepiece or the other - with or without the use of the extender. They simply drop into the eyepiece tube and require no screwing in or anything like that... gravity holds them in place. You don't have to overthink this! While this is not an expensive instrument - it is a useful tool that can open a world up to a child. It contains much of the necessary paraphernalia for your budding scientist to be able to peer into the world of the invisible. I can assure you that it will be worth the investment - and can vouch for the dedication of the seller to customer satisfaction. Thank you again, HSL!

Very good for the price
Likes: adjustable lights, adjustable stage, slide prep kit, some sample slides.Dislikes: would have liked more sample slides.Overall a very nicely designed microscope. The adjustable stage works well and the fine focus is very smooth. The optics have noticable contamination; not sure if it's dirty lenses or inclusions in the glass. Even so the images are clear. I returned a more expensive AmScope M162C microscope because the fine focus didn't work, cracked eye piece lens and very dirty optics. The HSL product is a lot better quality.

Microscope
Our 10 year old received this microscope as a birthday gift and absolutely loves it. She has spent hour looking at slides. (purchased an additional prepared slide pack from another company) The quality is perfect for kids and teaching them the basics of using a microscope. The carrying case is great for safe storage. Would definitely recommend this product for anyone who has a science loving kid.

It worked for me
I do some work is design that require that I look at very small parts of circuitry. Using a powerful magnifying glass was just not working well enough. I bought this microscope advertised for children hoping it would work well enough for me. I was shocked at just how well it worked and how easy it was to use. The added surface illumination is really nice. The wide range of power available is also very nice. It is really hard to imagine that this thing works as well as it does. Value for money is very very good.

Cannot view see-through slides
I purchased this microscope with a set of see-through prepped slides for my kid to view. When we got to viewing those slides, it turned out that the bottom light is misaligned with the objective. So the see-through slides don't get illuminated (from the back).I'm not a microscope pro and it is conceiveable that I'm doing something wrong, but I've used microscopes with bottom illumibation (with a little swivel mirror) as a kid myself and those worked fine.
