Esthetics with Resin Composites: Basics and Techniques

Using direct composite techniques on your patients?...then this book is a no-brainer...
Completed during the last year of his life (dying of serious illness relapse in 2006), Dr Hugo's book is excellent. Extensively illustrated with 100's of good quality photographs, showing a huge variety of direct composite cases. Each step is clearly explained, and the book has sections devoted to such topics as aesthetic ground rules, morphological layering techniques, matrix application techniques, tooth position/shape altering and finishing/polishing techniques, amongst many others. The bulk of the book describes clinical case examples (up to 50, each with step-by-step photographs and descriptions). There is a long list of references at the end of the book, and a DVD is also included (not yet viewed). A wonderful book, very practical and highly recommended, especially to those of us who learn best by viewing pictures of clinical techniques and tips, rather than reading dry theoretical descriptions. Worth every penny...!

Good, but not thorough
Got this book after viewing several sample pages online. To be honest, I expected much more than just a book, in which 2/3 of the volume is dedicated to presenting clinical cases and their solution, complemented with 2-3 explanatory sentences. For a $160 book, it is not enough. The part for general esthetics is very superficial, descrbing only those aspects of estherics, related to composites. Layering technique is somehow material-related since the author used BioStyle for his restorative treatments. I'm starting to think that the only thing that deserves its value is the open matrix technique for approximal buildup. The DVD that comes with the book is also very informative.
