Potted plants get watered
Disclaimer: I am away from the house too long to babysit houseplants. My wife has some lucky bamboo and another plant. I was looking at getting the decorated type potted plant auto dripper things but got this one because of the value. My wife forgets to water the potted plants and I even have to remind her of watering the garden. My job keeps me away for many hours and with the summer heats and water conservation, I typically forget to water the plants myself.I have connected a 20 oz washed out soda bottle and had to constantly try to adjust the spikes to the lowest setting. The bamboo does not have a drain hole so I have to be careful how much water it gets. We killed the last lucky bamboo and this one now has yellow and brown leaves. I keep getting too much water where I can see it over the pebbles. I may not be able to just leave this in the bamboo pot. The other plants are doing decent, just a little too much water. I am thinking of using something to slow down the water and then it would be better. After I get the setting, I will decorate the bottle and try to upload pictures to show my setup.

Has potential, but manufacturer needs to refine product.
Really wanted this to work. I read the reviews and an apparent theme was the water emptied out too fast, and dumped all the water out on day 1. I followed someone’s tip and stuffed the cone of the device with cotton balls, to slow down the water flow. This WAS an improvement, but one of the real problems was the control thumbscrew is not precise enough to set any slow, controlled water drip. It was all or nothing. And using a 2 liter bottle with these creates a vacuum which implodes the sides of the bottles and defeats whole system, while smaller water bottles are clearly not enough fluid to support watering a plant for an extended period.Does not work.

Waters too fast with 2 ltr bottle.
The 2 ltr soft plastic bottle emptied 70% (while collapsed due to air pressure), in <48 hours. Empty after 4 days. Too fast for me. Now I am trying a cotton string slipped into the hole in the spike, and secured with a knot in string inside the spike. This clogs the spike but still allows trickling flow of water through cotton string. (I used fishing line (tied to cotton string) to pass string through hole in spike.) After 72 hours 2 liter bottle is still 85% full. Bottle collapsed, but my intention is for bottle to last a month. Bottle was empty in 16 days, so my plants should make a month... The blumat system is working better for my small potted plants.

Good Idea, But.
It is a very good idea especially for the fact you are able to use a common bottle, but it has a few flaws. First the straws are too long and the holes very small. The straw takes up a good amount of space in the bottle due to the length. I at times mix my plants food with water, afraid of getting the straw clogged.

Easy Watering - Set it and forget it
This item is great for putting a bottle full of water into the plant pots outside, setting the water flow to a trickle, then leaving it alone. Living in FL, can soak the pot in the evening and by the time the next day comes the potting mix is entirely dried out (potting mix more readily available than soil but soil would be better, I admit). Have played around with an arduino for monitoring the moisture and when too dry, pump some in. However, this comes with it's own challenges like power delivery and such.I have these watering spikes screwed onto 2L Sprite soda bottles which seal well. Turning the knob lets me change how fast the water comes out - have them set on a trickle to make sure that there is moisture until I'm around next to refill the bottle and reset the contraption. Some things to note:- spikes are fairly short so using such tall bottles like the 2L soda bottle is initially top heavy (mine are propped against plants that they water)- the cap diameter is still narrow thus the weight of the bottle can and does (when as large as I have) push the cap/spike down past the point where the whole cap/spike is below the potting mix level. This would likely not be as big of a deal with real soil vs cheap potting mix- if the bottles are thin walled enough, they'll collapse voiding the need and benefit of the adjustment knob to change the rate water flows. All in all certainly will decrease the stress of my plants be able to have water spread out over the day vs extremes. Might try to take another bottle and cut squares out with small crosses to poke the spike through to keep it at the top of the potting mix. Will update if the sun causes brittleness of the plastic in an unusually short period of time but is expected eventually. Sun vs plastic.

arrived quickly
Got this product to help water my moms plants. When bringing plants in for the winter. She would forget to water some of her plants. This product makes it easy to give a set amount of water per plant. This was once every two weeks we just filled up the water bottles. Getting the flow set correctly takes a little adjustment. After that as long as you don't move the air wheel. You just have to fill the bottle again. We haven't been using it for long but it has been working well. Hopefully this will help with the watering over the winter.
