Open Source Intelligence Techniques: Resources for Searching and Analyzing Online Information

This book tells you how to find just about anything you want - especially information about you that companies like Google, Facebook, etc. collect and store about you. But it is also so much more. If something is out of date, it is easy to work around. One commentator laments that the author, Michael Bazzell worked in government. He did - in the FBI. I don't count this against him, to be sure, I count this as good, solid, relevant experience. BTW, some parts of this book are technical. But getting through the tech savvy parts is quite adequately explained.

I bought this book to learn more about Skip Tracing and used his website for a while until it was closed. It is really an informative book for those wanting to learn more about Open Source techniques.

I purchased this on. the recommendation of someone who works at FinCEN. This individual said it is an excellent resources for conducting open source research.

Excellent resource book.

I don't know anywhere else where I can get a complete reference on how-to-conduct-OSINT. The updated edition not only adds new sources, and advises about others that no longer work (e.g. the graph API in Facebook) but it also provides a link to a Kali-like linux environment download. If you're like me and you have VMware Workstation installed, popping the .ova file into a new VMware Guest setup is really simple. I did have problems with a few of the scripts but the Bazzell team was very responsive in getting them fixed. You can subscribe to Michael Bazzell's newsletter and get even newer tips on how to use open-source Internet tools to develop information on a target. So far, all of his recommendations on how to set up 'clean' email and Facebook accounts for investigation have worked with no problem.

Of course written by the Guru of OSINT, I would expect nothing else. Price is extremely reasonable

The content is quite good, however the tools are no longer available, and the links to the Linux distributions with the embedded customization are not immediately available. The techniques are sound but you cannot get everything you need from the book without paying 375.00 for 90 day access to the course itself - which is kind of messed up cause the tools are all supposedly available for free on the web page per the text.

It arrived bent up. I was expecting it to be in brand new condition for what I paid and because I like the books in my collection to stay in great condition. I gave 5 stars anyway because there were no pages missing or any tears in general and in the end the knowledge from the book is what I'm mainly concerned with.

Excellent book, great value and fast shipping.

Open Source Intelligence Techniques, is a great book, with links to a virtual machine you can work in, which has all the tools installed - a marvellous idea. A virtual machine starts starts as a pristine installation every time, so all the crapware, viruses or tracking software which you got last time you did a researchjob, are gone when you start anew!

Very interesting book, full of useful tips and information. Obviously with anything like this there is potential for much of it to be out of date by the time you read the book, it would be nice, if having bought the book you got access to updates on the website but they don't seem to have thought of that.

I have only just got this book and its pretty damn amazing!. So much work has gone into this book and it has blown me away on the amount of free resources on the net and a safe easy way to set up your computer for open source research. I am also now starting to use the Buscador VMware and look forward to learning so much more. This book is a must for any cyber-security /IT science student for learning recon work, and especially parents! as it provides great tools and different approach of researching the internet in a straight forward, easy and practical way without doing anything illegal. FOR PARENTS- this is a simple easy book to read and learn from about social media and other things around the internet! The author and developer have done a fantastic job! be sure to look at the author's website to learn more! so much here! cheers.
