The best, except maybe the mount
This is the most Kryptonite of Kryptonite locks, thick, strong, difficult to pick or cut through. Not impossible to defeat, used correctly, but about the best you'll get. Also, because of that: very heavy. What I don't like is the frame mount. No matter how it's mounted or adjusted, the mount (& lock) slides and pivots, often into the way of your pedaling, and with the size of the lock and the way the lock fits into the mount makes it difficult to impossible to mount out of the way (e.g., in the seat/cross/down post triangle).

Needed more length than the FAHGETTABOUDIT.
Well, it's a Kryptonite U lock, so much better than any cable lock, (don't even waste your money on those if your bike has any value at all. You might as well hang a sign, "STEAL THIS BIKE!") If anything, use a heavy chain at the very least. The stronger "FAHGETTABOUDIT" version is just too impractical because it's so short. I want to be able to just slip this on when I park, not figit with trying to work it into a tight spot and maybe scratch the paint. It is ironic that the LIGHTEST bikes cost more, so we need a HEAVIER lock to secure them, and this monster lock is not light by any means. There's some misinformation about the "Protection" offer. It doesn't say you HAVE to have insurance (as some have said), but it looks like you DO need to register your Bike (and Lock) ahead of time. From their website: "Remember this is an OPTIONAL offer and you MUST register to participate in the Program." You also have to notify the police within 72 hours, and Kryptonite within 7 days. Probably the only sticky point is they want a pic of the broken lock or may even want to see it in person. A thief might just take the lock with him to prevent fingerprint ID. I've seen some complaints about it being hard to unlock after using it for awhile. I'm wondering if that's from thieves who tried to pick the lock but failed. They might have damaged the pins, trying to ram screwdrivers or whatever into it. I debated about buying two lesser locks for the same price as this one. Seems having two locks is preferrable, although no lock is completely theft-proof. Any lock can be defeated given enough time and opportunity, like leaving your bike outside overnight. I might eventually buy a 2nd Kryptonite down the road for my $2800 Trek Domane, maybe the "Lite" version to compliment this one.

Survived angle grinder attack!
I never write reviews but I am making an exception here. I am starting to use my bike again after a year of not using it and I went to go clean my bike up and noticed that the lock had defended my bike from an angle grinder attack at some point without me noticing! I have no doubt they would have gotten away with my bike with any other lock. Looks like it worked so well they got tired of grinding! Worth every penny!!!

Good lock, bad bracket
The lock itself is great. The seller should take the second “new” out of the title because it’s easy to confuse with the New, NY u-lock from Kryptonite. That might be purposefully misleading but at the very least it’s unnecessarily confusing. The bracket is horrible. Not only are the directions virtually useless (seriously, watch a few you tube videos and don’t even mess with the written directions) but you need to mount it in a very specific way, which is not mentioned at all. The silver portion of this bike lock slides into the bracket to secure it. However, you really need to position this so the the weight of the lock is pulling it into the bracket as you ride. If you mount it another way, your lock falls off when you encounter bumps in the road. Unfortunately, in order to get the lock in that position it ends up taking more room under the top post of the frame and makes water bottle holders a little trickier. Supposedly there is another off brand bracket you can buy that works well. However, at this price point, the bracket sold with the product should work. There’s really no excuse. This lock is heavy and having to add it to a backpack is not ideal. It doesn’t typically sit evenly distributed in the pack which throws your bag off balance so the bracket is really needed.

Security
It’s substantial and I feel more assured that my bike is secured when using it! When it’s not in use on the bike, I use it as a weight to build up my strength! Works exceptionally well for multiple uses!

heavy and secure for a college student
Stout lock. Let's be honest, "locks are for honest people". If a criminal really wants to use a battery powered angle grinder or the like, they are going to get through whatever you have. Unless you want to lug around a big steel and titanium cage with multiple layers. But probably still with that. The lock has been a good balance of portable and solid for a deterrent. If you're focusing on "not being faster than the bear but being faster than the other hunter" -- well, look no further thank this Kryptonite U Lock. we own 2, this one is the more secure one and while we'd recommend both, this model was what our son uses at school. just remember to park your bike in a well lit and frequented area and ideally... next to a few bikes that are nicer and less secure. don't let that bear eat your bike.

Intimidated thieves enough to leave my lock and cut my bike.
This lock has been great. Recently, thieves cut through my e-bike and left my lock on the pole it was attached to. Until I get another bike it's useless, but at least I know the thieves found the lock intimidating. Wish I still had my e-bike.

Barely enough.
I bought this to lock up my new ebike. I've used (cheaper, lower quality) Kryptonite U-locks on my acoustic bike in Boston for 13 years before this. I splurged on what I thought was the heaviest, priciest, most durable lock out there. It was just barely enough. Less than 6 months after I bought the bike, I woke up to a text message saying someone tried, and failed, to steal it. I ran outside to find the lock as you see it here. The thief had found a working electrical outlet at the park near my bike, brought a 50 foot extension cord and a corded angle grinder, and cut one side of this lock in under 60 seconds. I know this because my neighbor caught it on his doorbell cam, timestamped at 1:50 AM. Then another neighbor yelled at the thief, who ran away before they could finish cutting the other side of the lock. Had the neighbor not yelled, and had the lock not required 2 cuts, I wouldn't have a bike anymore. If you have a nice looking ebike in an urban area, consider this the bare minimum. I've upgraded to the New York Diamond Standard since then, and it seems to be holding up, which for the $300+ price tag, it bloody well should.

stolen bike
Unfortunately my bike lasted only 1 month before getting stolen within 3 hours in the middle of the day while it was locked with this lock on university campus. No parts of the lock or the bike were left. Not sure how they can open a lock like this but they definitely can. My office window is also just above the bike storage where I left my bike and I didn't hear or see anything strange. I assume they might have a way of picking the lock.
