Pearsons Botanicals London Dry Non Alcoholic Gin, 0.0% ABV, 700ml

For medical reasons I can no longer drink but do like the occasional mocktail. I have tried a few non alcoholic gins and this is my favorite. It is not too juniper forward so it is not like drinking pine sap, but has enough botanical flavor that you know it it there. It has a clean, fresh, herbaceous, flavor and does not leave an aftertaste. It makes a lovely, refreshing mock Tom Collins.

The herb blend that is expected ~ juniper, coriander, camphor, citrus and other botanicals ~ isn't there. The flavor is not bracing at all. It's also tart ~ why would gin taste tart?? The largest ingredient after water is sugar. I was willing to overlook that, but tasted neat, it's sour-ish, and mixed in a drink ~ it's nearly flavorless. Very expensive waste of money.

If you are looking for an alcohol free Gin this brand is fairly close to the real thing on the front end but doesn't finish like a true Gin with alcohol would. I tried this first as a small shot free of any mixers and found it has a good aroma and taste of juniper berries but does not have that lasting taste you would get from real Gin. I made two types of mixed drinks, a Gimlet using simple syrup and fresh lime juice and a Gin and Tonic. The Gimlet was not very good, it needs that alcohol finish at the end for this type of cocktail. I wouldn't make this one again but the Gin & Tonic faired much better. The smell of the juniper berries mixed with the sparkling Tonic was a winner and tasted close to the real deal. It's a decent substitute for a mixed cocktail such as this and deserves the 4 star rating.

Gin non alcoholic in Negroni

I'd like to start this by saying I wasn't expecting Tanqueray. My expectations were curbed. Yet, somehow I was still disappointed. Personally, my palette didn't detect any juniper at all. To me, it tastes more like tonic minus the gin. That said, it might be a wonderful tonic (hence the 2 stars)

Would have preferred that it had some flavor to it. I drink gin and tonics and this tonic seems to dominate the ovrtall drink if made the same way I make normally. I'll play with it with different portions going forward before decide how to proceed with future purchases..

This is such a disappointment. We love gin, but I personally hate the feeling of inebriation and I was hopeful this could be a solution. It is NOT. It tastes nothing like gin. It is very much like a watered down non carbonated tonic water. Very unpleasant aftertaste and I would be surprised if the claimed “award” won by this product was for anything other than most disappointing product of the year. Don’t waste your money. Don’t waste your precious time wondering if this might be an option for you. You will be disappointed. I know we are.
